Important - Has anyone been experienced constant squeaking/screeching when braking??

Since I have bought the car in July 08, I have been into the dealership 4 times with this problem, they say they did not find anything wrong, or claimed to have fixed it.

Anyone have an identical problem.

Please reply either way.

For the first 9 months I had the original pads: no squeaking at all.

Now I got the BMW performance pads installed: Very anoying squeaking when braking at low speeds. However BMW warns you in the description of the performance pads about that...

I get some low speed squeeking once in a while - BMW says its normal (its in the manual).

No such choice in the poll so I didn't vote!

You want quiet brakes? Get a crappy pad.

Noise tends to be linear with pad temperature tolerance. Race pads squeal like a garbage truck when not HOT. Crap pads are quiet all the time, but melt when hot. M3 pads are in between. When they are cold, you may get a little noise under light braking. It's just the nature of the pad.

Why not go out on a deserted road and punish the pads a bit. Do some 60-70 mph to 5mph "stops" (but don't fully stop). Repeat 6-8 times (quickly....accelerate back up the 60-70 quickly and brake again) until you get the pads HOT. Then do a nice 5 minute no-stop cool down. See if that helps. At the least, you will properly bed the pads. I am a hard braker. My car is silent under braking.

Try the above bedding technique and see if it helps.

Squeaks a little when I'm going slow and then applying slight pressure to the brake. No sqeaking during hard braking for me.

Squeaks here and there in low speeds and cold. No biggy to me. It states in the manual that its normal. Regardless all M cars make noise and most of them are normal.

Mine squeak at low speeds. I don't care too much about it as I know they at least work well.

It comes and goes for me too. I noticed it only happens on colder days or after it rains when I apply the brakes lightly. Asked my SA and he said it was normal.

This is so pointless! welcome to the high performance world. if you want good performance brakes they are going to make some noise because of the aggresive pad material. Especially when they are warm.

Why do people buy M cars and then complain about noisy brakes and flywheel rattles? Do they not understand what they're buying?

Mine squeaks too at low speed with slight pressure on brake pedal.

It doesn't bother me much...just because aggressive brake pads tends to make some noise..(which is pretty normal)

btw, even BMW manual says it will make some noise...so....

Mine doesn't squeak as much now. Occasionally it does, but it used to be all the time at slow speeds.

Plus, this has been discussed to death, so try searching to read more about it.

I don't think people 'pre-read' the owner's manual before buying their car, so lets be fair. I read the owner's manual upon getting my M3, so when the flywheel rattle and brake squeeks began, I wasn't surprised. But, I do have to tell you, when I back my 60K car into my garage and my neighbor (who hasn't read my manual) hears my brakes 'howl' when I reverse up my driveway....it is a little embarrassing.

Just dropped mine off for the 4th time.. SA said it was "normal" but head mechanic rode with me and said definitely not normal.. They applied gold grease each time and never did anything.. Mine is not a squeak, more like a squeal and not any different in cold or warm temperatures. Sounds awful, and very loud. That said, some squeaking may be normal given how many times this has been posted here.. I see a lot of "performance" cars on the street and I've yet to hear their brakes squeaking as loudly as mine..

there is going to be brake dust and brake noise from the factory m3 brakes.

There is nothing you can do about it!

The price of this car does not matter when it comes to brake squeal. Just because the car is expensive does not mean it is immune to brake noise.

do not worry about what your uneducated neighbor thinks! He has no clue

If you do not want brake squeal, this type of car might not be your cup of tea....

i truly think half the people that buy BMWs should have bought a lexus instead.....
