Dog in M3?
Guys,
This may be silly to ask, but I thought I should inquire. My wife is thinking about adopting a 3 year old yellow labrador (already trained) and I'm fine with it. However, I'm wondering how that would work with our cars. I have an M3 coupe and she has a 328i convertible. Do any of you have large dogs that you put in your back seat? Do you use seat covers or a product you have purchased somewhere? Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. I'm just trying to factor everything to make sure we make the right decision. Thanks! We have a labradoodle and a border collie - my wife has a minivan.
The minivan is the only vehicle they are allowed to ride in as I would have to kill them if they chewed on the leather - labs/retrievers are notorious chewers. There are covers you can buy from Bavarian Autosport and others: showing products for 2009 M3 Convertible. (Click for a larger image) Custom-fit, rear seat covers in your choice of solid colors or duo-tone. Made of durable synthetic leather, these covers fit like a glove. Installation is relatively simple and involves slipping the covers over your seats and securing them to the underside. No sewing is necessary! Use the pull-down menus below to specify seat style and color choice. Allow 2-4 weeks for delivery. Personally, I still would not risk it...

...a dog in your M3!?!? You are really one nice person...I would have a heart attack if an animal (besides me I mean) would get in the car!

I have BMW cover and it works pretty well (better in the sedan).
It hooks to the front and rear headrest and covers everything up pretty nicely. In the coupe the side panels don't work as well so there is a chance you'll get dirty armrests and the pup will likely scratch the door trim getting in and out. Mine did but he's a twit who wants out of the car (maybe its the driving - he stays put in the X5?). The cover is a magnet for dog hair, which is good as it keeps it out of the car if you fold it before you take it out. It comes in a storage bag that fits nicely in the trunk. If you are going to get the dog go for the seat cover. Its worth it. As I say, it works OK in the coupe and great in the sedan. I've used it in both and wouldn't take the dog in the car without it. I mail ordered mine from Tischer.

Its just a car why not enjoy it with the pooch
I have the BMW one too! It's not too expensive and it was in stock. Once latched in it sort of becomes like a little seat covering hammock If my Boxer sits in the front seat I use this seatbelt holster I got at Petsmart an it woks well. Than I just cover the door panel and seat with thick sheets |

Many things to consider with this one. Before our lab passed, we used the Range Rover due to size. However, I'm a clean freak when it comes to my cars.
1. I couldn't stand the hair shedding onto the carpet / seats 2. the smell could never go away 3. there is always slobber / saliva on my rear windows

I'm not saying take the dog to the beach, let him roll in the mud and let him jump in the car. But taking the dog somewhere shouldn't be a huge issue. Also, in my opinion, if you're dogs aren't trained well enough to not chew on your seats, they have no business being outside of your house. My dog is well trained, but gets excited as hell to take a ride. So i have a lot of cleaning to do afterwards.... especially since he's got white hair. But when it comes down to it i'd trade the car for the dog in a heartbeat. Dog > M3

We have a 4 year old Golden Retreiver and he rides in both our BMW's.
We use a Doggie Duffle and it works great in both my wifes E93 & my E92.I also cover the console with a towel because our guy likes to have himself between the 2 of us everytime we slow down!We have had 1400 km days with him in the car with zero damage except for a little fur. http://www.doggieduffle.com/ |

I do not allow my dog in the M3. That's what the 7 series is for. I just recovered the interior on it though, so now I find myself putting a towel down before he jumps in.
I think the supple leather of the M3 would surely be scratched by a dog in the back. I already have a scratch from someones jeans. And the I-dog picture is great, thanks!

You live in TX and don't have a Suburban or Yukon XL? Did you just move there?
We had a lab for 14 years and the few, I mean very few times we ever hauled her anywhere other than her crate in the back of an SUV it ranged from a small mess to the largest one when she hadn't been brushed lately, I thought she'd enjoy riding up front, then rolled down the window. Eventually, I gave up on the hair removal and just sold that truck..... They will shed, they will not wipe their feet, keeping nails trimmed enough to not risk damaging leather will be a full time job, etc. They are great dogs, but getting them around in a sedan or coupe is a PITA. Personally, I feel pretty strongly about having them in a relatively confined area in the event of a crash too, but will refrain from preaching on that, being the noob here and all. |

Bruno's part of the family so he doesnt get treated any different. he doesnt like it as much as the truck but he makes due. i just put down a towel so he doesnt scratch the seats and were good. come on, i could never replace my dog, leather seats can be fixed. btw, i have a e92. |

it's a love / hate relationship between my cars and my dog. I love my cars in pristine shape. Prior to the Range Rover, my dog had most of his seat time in the Escalade, which is fine because it was already very worn. With the RR, my wife decided to use it for pet transport, so that really got to me.
In the end do what makes you happy.
