You need to give a budget before you go and tell us you want a good sound system. Plus everything is going to be going where the stock speakers are.

Lol, um, nothing worthwhile that will actually improve the OEM system. At least nothing that will make the install time and energy cost worth while. At only $500, you're contradicting the "high end" part of your project.

One of my friends just got a 335 coupe, off of the dealer lot, with the base audio and really was disappointed about how much worse than his previous Mustang sound system was.
He had just been quoted $2200 to put a decent aftermarket system in his 3er. I chided him that he should have been patient enough to order like I did. The premium stereo is well worth the upgrade imho.

Hahahaha and I thought you were going to give a decent budget. Save your nickels for awhile then come back and look into getting an aftermarket system. I would highly recommend Focal or Hertz. Currently my system is in process.
This time i'm going to the Alpine SPX 6 1/2 components upfront $330.00, JL Audio VR 690 $190. The amps are the expensive part. |

yea man 500 bucks is like goin to best buy and having them do ur sound system... cheap as F**k... save the cash, maybe look into the earthquake subs for under the front seats. I have read a couple posts that seem to say that they make a worthwhile addition to the stock setup. Overall though you can't get a solid setup without dropping probably like 2k... help i had an alpine flip up touch screen DVD player in my older car witch was like $1,200 alone. Anyway, goodluck!

The next step is to upgrade your component speakers and/or the subwoofers. Earthquake SWS-8's are an almost-drop in replacement for the OEM subwoofers while its pretty tough to find affordable replacements for the 4" full range component door and back window speakers. The back window should be easiest to replace since you can just raise the drivers to get more clearance. The door speakers are tougher since you only have 41mm of clearance from the top of the speaker mounting flanges. The most invasive step would be to replace the OEM head unit but this causes complications if/when the dealer has to do any vehicle programming since its a major component on the MOST bus which is the vehicles central nervous system. I'm against this option strictly from an aesthetic perspective since few head units look much better than utter shit.

Its really up to you but based on your apparent level of knowledge, I suggest you let professionals do your install for you.

Even if you're really good at it. Unless you ENJOY installing all this stuff, I'd let professionals do it. It can be a pain in the @$$, if something goes wrong, it's on you to a) fix it, b) pay for it if you permanently damaged something. There was a time in my younger days where I enjoyed taking cars apart, putting them back together, installing parts, troubleshooting problems, etc. But now, I just want a car that gets me from A to B with no problems whatsoever, and if it's fast off the line, then that's just a plus.

I am pretty sure you won't fit 6" in the front door, I think it's a 4" only fit. I have seen a custom pod install in the lower corner of the doors though which fitted 6" but would cost a fair few $$$ to do... |
