Major failure? What is thiis?
out of the sudden car started to behave herratically, idle went up, shifting was very rough, all sort of warning messages appeared in the display. that was 3 days ago. today again same thing. after shuting down/restart the engine all is gone, everything perfect.
went to the dealer, they say computer check found an idle regulator malfunction. is it so? does that happen to anybody? pls check attached pics.

Idle control valve. A few others have reported this. It is possible it is a bad batch of parts from a supplier. Things like this have happened before. On the E36's it was the coils and water pumps. On the E46, it was the main bearings.
A car is a car. Parts are parts. They all break and are not perfect. I am sure the dealer will fix it up for you though...no need to trip out on it.

Sorry to hear that Doru. Have a look at that thread, sounds like the same problem: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=260255

I'm not really worried about this happening (I know what it is now), but am worried it'd happen out of warranty, as I drive my car very little. Does anybody think it'll become a recall, which would be covered whenever it happens? Hope so, but doubt there're enough afflicted cars to qualify, no? Thx.

This has happened to a few members online already. I wouldn't worry too much. Your warranty should cover this. Fault parts is to blame.

thanks guys, part ordered already, they will fix it. i'm not hysterical about it, changed parts under warrantee on almost all bmw's i had the last 5 years or so and there were many. the only one i changed nothing was a 7 series but i assume it was only an exception to the rule- hahaha.
