Volumn Meter

My 135 came with the base standard audio system. When I adjusted the volumn, there was no volumn meter to show how loud is the volumn. Is this true or how can I make it to display such a volumn meter? Thanks.

Adjust the volume with the small knob on the radio or the buttons on the steering wheel and that setting will be stored according to which remote is in use. As there is no VU meter in the system (I've never seen one on a BMW), you'll need a DB meter to measure absolute units of volume. But why do you need it? Since like every other piece of audio gear, when it sounds loud, it is loud.

Normally, most audio gear's knobs operate within a range 0-Max (they stop moving when reached its min and max range). But our knob you can keep turning and don't feel the stop.

Why I want a VU (volumn) meter? It is because If I want to turn up the music but I don't want to max out, I usually dial up to 70-80% of the maximum such that the amplifier will be operated in its safty range and I am getting un-distorted sound too. Without the VU meter or regular knob with a stop, I don't know what % of maximum.

I know it sucks without it, but basically if you hear distortion turn it down. You should be able to tell the difference. If it isn't distorting then it is perfectly fine.

you dont need a little bar to tell you how loud your system is. use your ears as a volume meter. when they start to bleed, you know its too loud.

You try to fly a air plane with no gauges inside the cock pit, and sure you can tell how high and low that you are flying by looking out the window:-):-):-)

Sure, I can tell how loud, but I also wanted to know the % setting of the maximum power and I don't think your ear will tell you that, right?

All my other cars had a VU meter (a status bar) to tell me the volumn output is at x% of the maximum, but I could not find it with our 40K$ BMW. I think it definitely is an oversight or BMW engineer has a different view of user friendiness (BMW's iDrive is a good example of what I am talking about).

Of all the parameters the car doesn't tell you, I think the volume of the stereo is the least of your concerns.

Except you're not going to crash into a river and kill 200 people if you don't know the exact volume of your car stereo.

I happen to agree with you.
Either put some type of number to show 0-max, or put in a "stop", of something. I like it mainly for modding the system.
If that is what you're doing, then get a volt meter. Test the HU output to the amp. If there are "detents" when you turn the vol. knob, then count how many there are. 0V on your meter will be 0 on the knob. Turn the knob to maximum and note when the voltage hits max. If there are 100 detents on the vol knob to get to max voltage, then 50 detents should be 50%, you can verify that with the volt meter.
