Carputer question...

Long shot, but I'm just curious.

I'm getting a bit bored of my 08 idrive/nav system and since I'm planning on keeping this car for quite some time, I thought it might be worth exploring options.

Just wondered if there was a way/solution to switch between the idrive system displaying on the screen and a carputer? I'd love to have the carputer appear on the monitor and the audio play through the car's speakers with the flick of a switch. I guess anything is possible but I don't know enough about the idrive system to make assumptions about what is easy and what's not.
