I did see someone use the stock plate holder but drilled holes on the bottom and 3M'd the rest of the holder to the front bumper. Then you could remove in the future and still have a bumper with no holes! LINK: http://www.gominigo.com/NHLPB-BMW.html There was a guy on here who used some industrial velcro with a custom bracket:

Blue car: Why does it look like the hood is ajar on one side?
White car: Looks like a "buck tooth", and wouldn't that block vital air flow? maybe drill holes throughout the plate to allow air flow Velcro solution: So when do you put it on/take it off? Don't put it on until you get pulled over OEM Solution: Makes the most sense if your state requires it. My solution: Move to a state that doesn't require it, or somehow register your vehicle in another state (it's been done). Regards, Dale

I got tow hook solution... I never use it unless going on a long road trip, or known places where they check for front plate like NYC. Other than that it stays in the trunk of my car.

BTW, I haven't used the gominigo plate holder yet; I plan on using it for NJ state inspections.

Folks, the car ALREADY HAS the holes for the lower part of the front license plate holder, and are completely out of sight. But instead of drilling the upper holes in the bumper, I'd just use double-sided tape to avoid the holder hitting the bumper and scratching it, and also to prevent bouncing, but the bottom 2 screws are more than enough to secure the holder. Therefore, I wouldn't use industrial strength tape, like on badges, since it'd be a b*tch to remove on that location (compared to badges).
I live in TX, and haven't used a front plate in my 25+ years here, bit if I ever have to, will just use the stock holder as described. Good luck OP. |

Christ, either take it off entirely or "Velcro" it on so that it can be taken off as soon as you clear certain areas. But for sure not on the side.

I just got one of these for my 1er. It works great! It screws-in to the tow mount, and doesn’t even touch your bumper. You can put it on and off as much as you want.

It may look at little awkward in that spot, but it is better then drilling holes in your bumper. The best part is that you can take if off when you get to an event to show-off your car, and then put it back on for the drive home. |
