Where are these 10 speakers?
So i got the standard/base audio in my car with the BMW Professional Headunit. I can locate the door speakers, the rear deck speakers, and the subs under the seat but can not find the front highs in the door pillar?? Just wondering about this since i am going to be starting my audio project soon.

I think the 3rd response in this sticky post for audio has what you are looking for:
HK Document for 1er Premium Audio It looks like they are in the A pillar. However, I'm sure you looked there. Maybe you don't have the 10 speaker audio you think you have. I'm sure you'll get it sorted out. Good luck with your upgrade. I have Premium Audio, and I think it's a bit "meh". I wouldn't have minded starting with the most basic system and upgrading myself from there. |

Interesting...they are not on mine. What a bummer!! I am pissed about that cause i thought it was going to come with the 10 speaker set up with the standard stereo...which i was told. WTF? Anyway...anybody else out there with a 2010 and standard radio (no upgrade) found the same issue?

Mineo77, let us know what your current thoughts are about the system you plan, and keep us up to date.
If you have a good budget, I think you should listen to DynAudio speakers. Dynaudio World Wide Stereo I have B&W 805s and a Mcintosh MC205/MX120 at home. I usually demo speakers with music with a good, clear voice track. Voice is something that we can usually tell right away if it sounds natural or not. The Dynaudios were awesome right from the start. They sell separates or packages, and the sizes seem like they might fit the BMW holes. I heard a Mcintosh car amp thru stock 5-Series E39 Harmon Kardon speakers when I was considering upping the power of my M3 E36 conv HK system. That sounded great too. They do a 6-channel amp MCC406M and there's an older version MC440 you can often score on eBay. eBay Mcintosh MC440 Mcintosh MCC406M While the amp can make a significant difference in sound quality, I would venture to say most people say that speakers have the largest influence in the "voice" of your system (pun intended). FYI, I'm currently unemployed looking for a job, so I'm living vicariously thru you with these suggestions! |

Here is my current thinking...but this may change with some research:
MBquart 4" components in front MBquart 4" 2 ways in rear -powered by a PPI 4 channel 80wx4 Rear sub JL audio 10W3-4ohm Custom box by Ben -Powered with PPI bridged amp 320 watts Then will need an audiocontrol sound processor so i can keep my stock head unit. this is the plan so far...my wife is my limiting factor but i will eventually complete it. Hopefully by the new year!

He quoted me $167 AUD or $155.31 USD each !!! Mind you, can't say i am surprised, they charge $72,000 AUD or $66,960 USD for a stock 135i manual that i beleive over there you can have one for around $35k delivered with the few options that do come standard on the Aussie cars like Boston Leather. Between the exchange rate, and Kevin Rudd's luxury car tax they make the cars very bloody expensive lol. Getting back to the topic however in Australia the standard stereo has always been the 6 speaker system, i have all of my stuff ready to install, and once the Bluetooth issue in my car is fixed i'll start installing it and take some pictures. The tweeter mount is something i had wondered if it was possible, and now i am really excited to test it out !! Buying an ex-demo model meant i had no choice on options, and the speaker system was my biggest regret. Now it looks like i'll be thankful i never got it Might be a good time for all of us Aussies to hit up US suppliers for parts, they reckon the exchange rate might hit 1 USD 1.05AUD next year, but hell i am way too impatient for that !

Spoke to my local dealer, the door mouldings for the hifi are $75/piece...kinda $$ and may be more than a custom mount. I havent heard back from Dan at United BMW yet to see what he can get them for.
I definitely didnt want to waste $900 on the hifi system since i was planning on doing a custom job from the begining...it is all i know cause i have done it on all my previous cars.

Also, I was under the impression that we only have 4 speakers (2 in front doors, 2 on rear shelf)... if we have 6, are the fronts co-ax or do we have 'subs' under the front seat too? |

I actually looked into buying some sws-8's off either the net or from overseas, however the shipping is very prohibitive at around 120 USD for 2. There is a company called FHRX (based in Sylvania, NSW) who sells the subs for $200 each delivered, with a new shipment coming in early november. I ended up taking this route since my car is at BMW sydney and needs a bluetooth issue fixed before i can do any modifications (and possibly have the fault blamed on the changes) and the best delivered price i could get from overseas worked out to be $430 australian. If there were any items i'd recommend for you to get it would be any external components. I heard whispers that US pricing might be going up, and with our dollar doing so well it might be our last decent oppertunity to get the stuff at the cost of only one arm instead of two. I currently have tentatively (until shipping is confirmed) on order the performance exhaust, cf mirror and cf boot spoiler. I think once landed with it all consolidated into two shipments (spoiler wont fit in exhaust box) it'll cost me around $2400-$2450. To give you an idea the exhaust costs at least $2k, spoiler $1100, Mirrors $1280. So it is in effect almost half price ! That leaves me room for maybe some decent 4" splits !
