Steering wheel shimmy - solved for me

I used to get steering wheel shimmy between 80-85 mph, although on some roads there was none and have been puzzled on the why. Last week I filled air to 35 psi cold (both front wheels were between 30-32 psi) and shimmy is practically gone. I have 35K miles and the tires are getting to a point where they need to be replaced in the next 5-10K miles. I realize this may not be a solution to folks with other issues (damaged rims, tyres, balancing issues etc.) but thought I'd share this.

Happy driving

In my old 997C2S, I got a shimmy between 90 and 105 km/h right after I got a new set of 4 PS2s.

The dealer and a separate garage with an excellent reputation for Porsche work were not able to sort it out. I tried all kinds of tire pressures - nothing helped. It drove me crazy. Luckily, the lease was up soon, and I got the M3 because I needed a back seat.

I have my PS2s at 35/35 too, and still have a very slight shimmy in some roads since day 1, but selling dealer put 500 miles on my baby to bring it from somewhere else. Wonder if the heavy a$$ 'M' logo valve caps have anything to do with it. Will leave it alone for now.

Interesting, never thought of the valve caps but if heavy enough that can be an issue if the tires were not balanced with them on.

you will never fix the shimmy if you keep the PS2s----- the more you think about it, the more shimmy you will feel.

just learn to love it
