Can we start an Acronym thread because there are many many new terms in the E90/92/93 compared to previous. I think there was a thread like this on M3Forum many years ago and I thought it was helpful.

If it goes well maybe mods can sticky??

I'll start with a few that I think most newbies won't know because I didn't know until I joined this forum.

I'll try and keep it in alphabetical order.

BC - On Board Computer
OBD - On Board Diagnostics
CA - Comfort Access/Client Advisor
CCC - Car Communication Computer (2003+)
CIC - Car Infotainment Computer (Sept 2008+)
DCT - Double Clutch Transmission
DME - Digital Motor Electronics
ECU - Engine Control/Computing Unit
ED - European Delivery
EDC- Electronic Dampening Control
FTM - Flat Tire Monitor
LCI - Life Cycle Improvement
MY- Manufacture Year/Make Year/Model year
TPM/TPMS - Tire Pressure Monitor System
ZCW - Cold Weather Package
ZPP - Premium Package
CTP - Technology package
6NF - Smart Phone Integration (not really an acronym but I didnt know what it was for the longest time)
6FL - iPod/USB Integration (ditto top)

those are the harder ones I can think of, of course I won't list the obvious ones but feel free to add?

MY certainly does NOT stand for "Manufacture Year". You could order a 2010 car and it was built in 2009. MY is more "Model Year".

ZTP - technology package

BC = Board Computer
FTM = Flat Tire Monitor (for non-North American folks)
M-DCT/M-DKG = M Dual Clutch Transmission/M Doppelkupplungsgetriebe

ZTP = Technology Package
ZPP = Premium Package
ZCW = Cold Weather [Package]

I used to know what the "Z" stands for. It's a German word. I can't seem to find it via Google. Technically, I think that the other words in the acronyms for the option packages are german also, but they are similar to the US words. Kind of like BMW means both Bayerische Motoren Werke (German) and Bavarian Motor Works (English).

Zing!

Don't forget the ever ubiquitous 6MT - 6 (speed) manual transmission.

i always thought ZCP stood for competition package.

"I have an 06 E46 ZCP"

unless the meaning has changed for the E9X

LCI = Life Cycle Improvement

I had typically seen is as "Life Cycle Impulse" until this post by LMB.

LMB definitely knows his stuff, but I've seen other extremely knowledgeable folks use the word "Impulse", including - if I am remebering right - JSpira.

FruitCake GREAT THREAD! You will save so many newcomers from asking what each of those means.

I say we sticky this thread!
