Question Brakes

Alright so I have to get new brakes (20K Miles) but I don't have a valid service plan b/c it's a CAN car in the US. What do you guys suggest I do, go w/t stock or get aftermarket? I enjoy the stock brakes but I figure If I'm going to pay 3K+ (fronts and rears) for a stock system I might as well go aftermarket..

The dealer told me that I need new discs, pad, and sensors.

I already got a quote from a well known shop..

"
Brembo (Black, Red, Silver or Yellow)
Front: 6P 380mm 2-piece ($4,250)
Rear: 4P 380mm 2-piece ($3,395)

Rotora (Blue or Red)
Front: 6P 355mm 2-piece ($2,795)
Front: 8P 380mm 2-piece ($3,795)
Rear: 4P 355mm 2-piece ($2,295)
Rear: 4P 380mm 2-piece ($2,795)

Each kit includes complete caliper, brake lines, brake pads, mounting hardware. We can also custom paint any color you want or logo on the calipers.
"

How do you think the re-sale will be if I go aftermarket?

Thanks

No way you need calipers at 20K. If you do they should be covered under warranty.
Did the dealer say rotors by any chance?

First of all you don't really need rotors if their thickness is still above 28.4mm or something (look on the rotor hub where it is inscribed).

I would say get new pads for about $170 per axle and put them on and you should be fine.

Mov'it is the best street brake...period (billet calipers and you can even get a ceramic disc setup). They'll even make custom hats if you want to change your offset. Ceramic costs a little more but lasts 4 times longer and weighs next to nothing in comparison.

BMW uses German-made Ate most often.

A big brake kit is overkill if you just need pad and rotor replacements but if you want an improvement in performance and of course a better looking setup, then a Brembo kit would be the way to go. If you do it, I would get it customized with carbon inlay or a different color:

oem replacement is $2K, not $3K if you are talking rotors/pads/sensors. cheaper still if you go with an aftermarket rotor (not a bbk). Its okay, admit you just want a BBK. They do look good. If you don't track this car hard then they definitely are just for the bling factor. sadly you won't see much if any return on them if you sold them with the car. when you sell, it would probably be better to replace them with the oem brake components and sell separately.

I've never read anything bad about Rotara. Evosport runs them on their race cars.

Im selling my stock brakes with upgraded pads and lines for $650. Ton of life left in everything, the pads have 5000KM on them, and SS lines.

You should also consider AP Racing and Stoptech.
Do you need them to clear 18" rims for winter? If so, don't get a 380mm rotor, you are too limited in your choices on 18s.

OEM discs, pads, and sensors cost less than $1400 from getbmwparts.com...

way less than the least expensive performance-enhancing BBK... (cheapest I know is >$4000)

Stop making excuses for a BBK!

They are very legit, but I've been burned a few times on shipping irregular sized/shaped parts like a trunk liner ($75 shipping).

Yes they are one of the most well-known web sites for BMW parts.

They are also on the forum if you want to contact them.

Use Jason@Tischer.

Or better yet, bring this to your dealer and ask them to match the price

If you're considering going with a BBK, then you will want to consider going with AP Racing, which I think we've talked about before over PM.

But if you're just looking for a pad replacement, then you'll want to look more into Cool Carbon, they've got some of the best pads out on the market today.
