M3 or wait....?

I am currently in a 2007 Sparkling Graphite 335i coupe, but as I have mentioned in a recent thread, I've been looking for a 2011 M3 coupe.

Should I go for the 2011 MY, or wait until the next M3 comes and possibly forfeit the N/A V8 in lieu of a (possibly) faster twin-turbo 6?

Can you wait 4-5 years. That's a long time.

Can you wait until 2013, at least?

Best regards,

Depends on how long you plan on keeping it for. The next M3 won't be out until 2013 (according to posts I've read on this board). If I was you I'd wait a bit until about a month before the 2011's come out and try and snag one of the last 2010's available. You might not be able to get the exact color combo you want, but you will save a lot of $$$$. That's what I did last September, I got one of the 3 09's the dealer had left because the 2010's were coming in to the dealer in October. Got a loaded E92 with a sticker of $71k, got it for $66k and 0.9% financing . I've read on this board that the 2011's are coming to the US in March or early April. Frankly I don't think that is correct but I could be wrong. Find out for sure when the 2011's are getting here and try and get into a 2010. It's the same car.

Time vs engine

like previous post do you want to wait few years and another question is do you want the NA V8 engine or (possible) 6 cylinder Turbo engine.

Those are complete 2 different engines (neither one better then the other) so its really up to you whats your prefrence.

There's no question about the N/A V8 being replaced - that's a fact at this point.

If you need or want a car now, you can rule out the F3x M3. It will not be on the market for another four years from today.

I am leasing a 2011 M3 that will arrive mid May. I am leasing it 2 years and then I will be getting the next V6 TT M3. Best of both worlds!

The real question is why do you want an M3. I can tell you that the V8 is the reason I wanted this M3.

Also, just as with anything in life, you can always wait for the next best thing. But that goes on forever, so really you should never buy anything since it will only be a few years until it is improved and you will be stuck with a lousy V8 M3....That would suck

If you know why you want an M3, then the choice should be easy for you and that the current M3 is the best M3 since you can drive it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is never a best of anything for very long so ride the wave you got.........Good luck.........Steve

As said only you can answer the question.
Can you wait till 2014?

Either you get the M3 E92 and profit from the last NA V8 or you get the soon coming M1 E82 and you shall have a taste of what is going to be the next M3 F32. It shall be easier to wait. If you can not buy a new car every 4 years, then it is better to wait.

I used to get pissed that the computer I just bought gets replaced by something better or is now priced lower. Then I chased the latest greatest thing in motorcycles for a few years. I think there's a balance. Don't wait, but don't get something you'd be disappointed in. 99% of everyong here LOVES their cars, and that's a strong statement. I say don't wait.

Guess your favorite car is always the next one. That probably holds true for most. As for me, the older I get the older I like my cars. I've lost passion for anything still sitting on showroom floors.

Loooong time to wait. I wanted the NA V8. Plenty of time in the future to enjoy smaller FI + DI engines in an ///M.

Thanks for everybody's input, the overwhelmingly positive response has helped me to make a decision. As of now I'm officially on the prowl for a new MY M3 Coupe!

Part of my question was based on the fact that, while I can very much afford the switch to a newer M3 should one come out unexpectedly early, I wouldn't want to pick up an M3 now only to have it rendered "obsolete" by a more potent engine within only a year or two. Sounds like, based on what I have read here, that it will be quite a while before that would happen.

I will post up pics once I find "the one".

^ congrats, just make sure you lease it then if you plan on getting a new M3 latter. i found buying BMW's right away isnt the best idea since they have been changing the tech and engines so much lately its probably better to lease right now.
