SS brake lines

So I was wondering what would be a good brand of SS brake lines to buy? I really don't have the large amount of cash sitting around to upgrade to a BBK. I see that GT Motoring is selling some but are they any good? Or should I just go with a set of Stoptech lines. Also what would be a good set of pads/fluid to switch to as well?

I'm buying the UUC ss brake lines for my car, when I'm ready to flush the brake fluid on it.

I'm happy with my Bimmerworld lines.

Make sure you match your pads to their use. "Race" pads might sound cool, but they will not reach optimal operating temperature day to day driving. They are designed for sustained periods of hard braking/high temperatures and will perform worse than street pads at day-to-day operating temperatures.

Thanks for the ss brake line tips. I am having some put on at the end of March, favoring the UUC lines.

I had the UUC lines installed, and I'm happy with them. They've improved the feel and made modulating the brakes easier.

What TrackRat said, Goodrich lines, RBF600, and then Pagids for track, Carbotechs for dual duty (XP10s, that's a typo on FB, sorry about that).

We've had great results on track with our Challenge stainless lines so far over the last year. We use them on the race cars as well of course. Depending on the track duty you are pulling, you may not need to do a pagid or carbotech, but if you are getting serious, or are on some demanding road circuits, both brands have great reputations.

ATE fluid is just as good as the motul (close boiling points) and a cheaper cost.

the only thing you'd gain with motul is a slightly better feel on the pedals, but it's nominal for street driving.

Well, speaking of pedal feel ...

I have replaced OEM brake lines with SS ones on three cars that I have owned, including an E46 M3 and Miata. I have never felt a difference in brake feel with SS lines alone. Perhaps my feet are numb but have any of you that have done this ever felt the benefits of using SS brake lines? Now, remember, this is just the brake lines; the rotors, pads, or calipers don't count because I have definitely experienced a difference that way.

The difference in pedal feel is if you're really going hard on the track. Once the brake fluid heats up, the brake pedal can actually start to feel really squishy, in which limits you to how hard you're going to be able to brake.

Essentially you're extending your time on the track by having a constant pedal feel for a longer period of time.

Stainless lines won't in any way extend your time on track.

If you're overheating the brake fluid you need moisture free, higher boiling temp brake fluid or better cooling to the brake calipers and rotors. Stainless lines will not have any impact on these issues.
Correct, the difference in pedal feel is often felt in older vehicles rather than new, due to line swelling or a fluid change.

Still, it doesn't hurt to plan in advance if planning on seeing the track - especially when it comes to braking and/or safety.

So, it seems then that SS lines are only worth it if track the car often. For street they're a waste of money. Everyone agree?

Cheers.

I can understand shiny objects, but the only ones who are going to see it are the techs who work on the car from underneath.

So all kidding aside. If I go with OEM discs, CoolCarbon pads F/R, Motul or some sort of high boiling point brake fluid and just leave the brake lines OEM rubber, on the track I will have better performance, better brake modulation and better bite? I don't mind spending $150 for some good lines, just want to know if it's worth the hassel to install them? Besides normal street use, I track about once a month or two but I let the car cool after about 20 minutes of track time.

Thats right.....the fluid and the pads are the key things for you at the track.....also your driving style
I like the MOTUL....very good stuff....and have used HAWK pads with good results...
Even w/SS lines if the fluid starts boiling....air bubbles get in the line and braking suffers....at least that is what i have been told.

Guys I ordered the UUC lines - the UUC-E90K product. I just want to make sure I got the right item - 6 total lines, 2 long ones, and 2 shorter ones?

Thanks

My car is now due for a brake fluid flush and change which I am going to get done next week as part of my factory maintenance on BMW's tab. So figure to go ahead and change out the brake lines to SS ones then along with service and oil change too. BUT....

Anybody know how many pints of ATE gold is needed? I heard 2 pints for a complete flush

Hmm I saw 4 lines on all of the ones I looked at. 2 front and 2 rears. (2 short and 2 long ones) from Turner motorsport where I just ordered mine.

I called them to confirm again, and they said there's 6...2 long ones and 4 shorter ones?

Whatever - when I install them we'll see! I think they also mentioned that it was 4 for the previous generations...
