After all, its just an M3.

I have been enlightened. No longer will I baby my M3 any longer. I will drive it the way it is to be driven. I used to get anal about watermarks, smears on the window, brake dust. Today after washing my car I found crap load of water marks, and chips on my bumper, the worst is the chip on the corner of the bottom lip of the front of the bumper, bummer. Had mine for roughly over three months now and only clocked around 360mi on her so far, thats how much I babied it. Well not really, I was away.

One thing I noticed is that the watermarks on my M3 are a PITA to get off, I clean off one plane and I noticed they're all over the car. My dad's E350 is over two years old now and he washes his car like three times a year + occasional natural washing from the rain. He gets no water marks.

Anyways, those of you who baby your M3, please stop, your wasting your life as I noticed I had. Drive it like it wasn't yours. Just think of it this way, if it gets jacked up enough, just buy a replacement for it.

I actually drive my ///M hard, but I also like to keep it looking nice.. You really can do both, just have to know what your doing.

Definitely do whatever is right for you!

um, just because you drive it hard doesn't mean you have to trash it too. i don't baby mine, but I always take good care of it, and clean it regularly. oh, and a PPF will prevent rock chips on the front end.

You can baby it and drive it hard at the same time though.

Dude, spend some time in the Details section, or at least read this LONG post.

yea i stopped being "obssessed" with my cars as of late and started to just enjoy it.
that doesn't mean i treat them like a $2k car.. just that i now don't park 2 miles away because i come out and there's that 1 other car always parked next to the "island" area of the parking lot. that sight just sometimes drops my heart because it always looks like he parked RIGHT next to mine but there's enough space to open doors all the way without touching.
just take care of it well still, like warm up before opening her up, regular maintenance, etc.. parking and rock chips, you just have no control over as long as the car is being used.. don't stress over those and just enjoy..
as life goes on, chances are we'll just keep getting better and better cars in the future

Yeah I read the detail section many times, trust me. I am just saying, I got over the obsession stage and I am sure many people are not over it yet. This will hopefully let them get past it so they can enjoy their M.

...and then some after that.

Just recalling the post where you overreved the engine

How is the engine running now? Is it still holding up well?

Yeah, definitely treat your things like disposable goods and buy replacements every couple of years. Not...

You obviously don't value your car much......its not like you have to give it a 3 step polish every weekend....

Water spots? I was reading some threads on Ferrari Chat (yeah I like to live vicariously through them) and those guys use spotless rinse systems. Here is a link to one: http://crspotless.com/, there are many others. Those guys swear by them and talk about babying their cars.................

Lightbulb ...just an option to consider

I'm originally from SoCal, but now live in MN which is harsh on the exterior due to weather, and the suspension from horrific potholes. Being from Cali, I was accustomed to frequent washes and immaculate detailing, definitely not always possible here. Can't do shit about potholes except zig-n-zag. For the first-time, I applied a paint sealant called Cilijet (10yr warranty).
After two winters and 24,000 miles, the car surfaces still look great after every wash and still 'feel' smooth like a waxed surface--no streaking, spots, or brakedust build-up, and seems to stay cleaner longer in 'civilized' weather.
That said, chips just plain suck!

I was talking to my uncle about how much I wash and treat my car when I first bought it. He drives an E55 and has been driving it for like 4 years now. He driving it hard and doesn't care and enjoys it. Doesn't let the small things bother him! That's good.

So when I told him about how much I treat my car his response was "a car is meant to be driven, drive it, enjoy it, beat it.... sell it" hahah this to me made sense.

Don't kill your car by over reving and being stupid, but have fun without letting the small things get to you

Just make sure to change your oil frequently..every 7K would be good.

I drive mine very hard, but still keep it clean. I've got a pretty impressive rock chip collection though.
