Question for single humpers

I spent some time this weekend crawling through the cars innards. There isn't as much room as I thought, or needed for some projects that I want to do. Anyway, when I removed the center console top I tried to get the cup holder behind the stick shift (where the idrive knob would otherwise be) out. It's on there pretty good like it's glued in. I didn't want to yank too hard and there is no obvious way that it fits, like tabs or something. I have something in mind for this space but I don't want to cut into the cup holder. So my question is has anyone taken this cupholder out of the center console? If so, is there a trick to it?. TIA.

Cheers.

It is not removable, the M3 shifter console and cup holder/bin is a single P/N:

Technic,

Thanks, now it looks like the knife and drill are coming out.

I saw that too, but those descriptions and their pictures didn't make much sense to me so I wanted to ask.

Cheers.

Sorry, that information is classified top secret. I could tell ya, but then, ... . Hopefully, you all will see real soon now.

I'll check the classifieds but I'd be surprised to find an M3 console; you know, the real nice one with leather. Oh, wait. I suppose that the one for an iDrive would work real well. Hmm, I wonder who's changing out their '08 iDrive knob for an '09+ one? I'll be right back ...

Cheers.

actually i had bought the center console for the idrive equiped cars
i had visions of hooking up the idrive knob to the steering wheel controls
so moving the knob right would be forward
left would be rewind
up and down would be volume
so i got one and tried to hack the idrive controller
but it turned out the buttons work in a weird way
its not 4 buttons for up down left and right
its 4 switches and every direction connects to of the buttons
so it was very hard to hook it up the way i wanted
eventually sold the center console and idrive knob
still have the hacked idrive controlled (without knob) and the steering wheel controls

its actually the first time i regret not getting idrive, since i bought my car
would much rather be a double humper than a single humper
