Do the 2011's bypass the gas guzzler tax?
Looks like there is no $1300 gas guzzler tax on the 2011's on bmwusa.com.
Just configured the same car for a 2010 and the 2011 comes out less even if you were to add the gas guzzler tax in there |

Interesting find, I just noticed that too. Maybe the system is not fully updated yet... but would be nice if I can save the GGT!
But yea, the GGT is still on the 2011 pricing sheet PDF. |

I put my order in for a 2011 m3 a few weeks ago and the dealer didn't add in GGT to my final price yet because they said the US gov't hasn't put out guidance on 2011 taxes yet. Somehow I doubt this will get overlooked for too much longer...

There was an article in the FT and on TTAC.com, I'll see if I can find a link *Edit* Okey doke here's the link, and within the article, there is a link to the German Financial Times story. If you copy that url and feed it into Google Translate, you'll get the general gist, but TTAC sums it up fairly well. Apparently there is still some confusion as to whether Porsche would fall under the VW umbrella. The FT article says that the law references 2009 automakers status, at which point, Porsche was considered an independent. Last edited by Ajax-Prime; 04-02-2010 at 03:23 PM.. |

As I recall the BMW site never called out the GGT. You had to look it up on the pricing PDFs.

Haha I keep laughing my ass off reading these comments.
$1300 gassguzler tax?! Where do I freaking sign? In Holland we've been paying gassguzzler tax since before it became the political correct thing to do worldwide... actually since 1995. A couple of examples: - Gasguzzler tax on a BMW M3 E92 : around €31,000 (which is $42,000) - Gasguzzler tax on a BMW M5 : around €32,500 (which is around $43,000) And that is guzzlingtaxes ONLY. You'll still have to pay the car itself and 19% added tax. A completely stock (as in no options) BMW M3 E92 costs 120,000 euro's here.... which is 161,000 dollars! Lol.... this is probably the direction you should be thinking towards when wondering what the future holds for you since countries around the Netherlands have slowly but gradually been adopting our car taxation style. I know you Americans are a stubborn bunch but I think it'll get to ya eventually. Last edited by DutchManticore; 04-03-2010 at 08:47 AM.. |

It's coming to us in the form of greatly tightened fuel economy regulations. Politicians over hear like to avoid levying true taxes in any way they can, so they spend millions of dollars on insane laws and regulations that subsequently cost millions more dollars to enforce. And then, we just heap it all on top our national debt. It's great.
