Call Quality with Bluetooth?
The call quality in '07 335i - e90 is quite poor when using my Blackberry and bluetooth. I can hear people, but the people on the other end hear all sorts of road noise, wind from the vents etc. It really is not good for a "business conversation". I have to stop the car to get good quality.
I am moving to an '11 E90 M3 (ED in June - can't wait) and I am wondering what type of call quality others are getting? Did BMW improve the system from '07? Has anyone found an update/upgrade that helps? |

It's all the same with bluetooth in the car.
Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus they all suck.. I always feel like I have to yell on the phone. Super annoying. This is what I suggest get a pair of wired one ear with mic headphones. Like the headphones that come with the iPhone. That's what I use. Maybe the 2010< iDrive system has new technology to help with it but still wireless anything really isn't that great.

I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty satisfied with my call quality. Few people can actually tell if I'm talking on my Blackberry or through the M3's Bluetooth connection.

my e93 top up or down is like crap. most the time the first call is decent, then any call until i turn the car off and back on is terrible. I put a parrot kit bluetooth in my mazdaspeed6 and it was leaps and bounds better. I since put the same kit in my girlfriends murano and again its several times better than the factory setup.
I think most of the issue is due to the mic location. i dont understand why it wasnt built into the bottom of the rearview mirror, or even just more exposed so it can function better. |

You have to stop and consider what phone you are using. When I had my Sony Ericson or Motorola the Bluetooth worked great. Every since I got my iphone 3 years ago the call quality is just ok.

I have used mostly Blackberrys (Curve, Bold, 8900) and for a short while an iPhone. The bluetooth connection works, but it does not provide the quality you need for a long detailed conversation - all sorts of noise and often the mic volume is to low.. As saeedg48 stated, using an old school wired headset provides much better "business" quality voice. I commute in my 335i for about an hour and need to take calls. I was hoping new M3 will have some improvements.
What I just don't understand is why I can buy a $30 wired headset or even a $90 bluetooth headset that kicks ass over my BMW setup. |

+1 no way to fix as BT Technology itself is lacking. if u must stay BT get the Plantronics Voyager Pro it's amazing for a BT unit ... mainly due to the boom mic. if u can go wired = that's even better ... but get a headset WITH A BOOM MIC. it's what i use .. and although i may look like a goofy Time/Life Operator with my headset .... my business clients are always shocked when i tell them i'm driving, they ask me what i'm using cause it's crystal clear & legible. Boom Mic's FTW |

BMW bluetooth and iphone work superbly. The volume can be controlled on the phone. No issues whatsoever. Check the phone for setting when it comes to the bluetooth/in-car pairing. It's always the phone ... not the car.

I'm also very happy with the quality the of iPhone 3G, Bluetooth paired with my 08 E93. I'd rate the quality as excellent, as defined by never having any issues with a normal conversation, as long as I have a good signal, which is about 95% of the time in my major urban area.
