anyone owned C63 and M3?
Short story is I had a C63 ... and after a year and a half ... had the hairbrain idea of trading it in for something more practical (too embarrassed to say what that is) ... fast forward 4 months later and this whole 'being practical' thing has run its course ...
So, it is down to a C63 or a M3 (E90 w/DCT). Interested in getting feedback/impressions from people that have owned both or driven both extensively ... |

I have both. C63 = great highway cruising car with tons of power. M3 = way more fun all around car to drive and kills it in the turns.

+1 The C63 is a beast on the highway and has orgasmic sound. I just bought a Mars Red C63 two months ago. I love it but I find myself driving my M3 to work on the nice days more since its mostly twisty back roads on my to work |

Those were the two cars I had narrowed down my search to when looking for a replacement for the GT3.
The consensus I found was exactly what was stated above.... C63 is a great cruiser with brute power. M3 is more of a handling car. Thus, being as I am more of a twisty roads type of guy, I opted for the M3. I think it really depends on what you want out of the car and where you want to enjoy it. Are you a commuter and mostly highway driver who rarely takes "the twisty road less traveled" or are you the kind of guy who would rather take the longer twisty road to work? For me, I typically commute in my old Toyota truck and use the M on "fun days" in the hills, backroads, track, etc. It still is used around town here and there, but doesn't see a lot of commuter detail. I had to drive it today as it was sitting for about 2 weeks and I had to get some charge in the battery! lol Damn clock even lost its setting! wtf?

My dad has a c63. It's a great car. Gobs of power. Really like the car. Since you already had one I assume you know to get the LSD with it.
The M3 is better in the corners by far. But the overwhelming reason I got the M3 believe it or not was that I just wanted to row gears again. And that was the end of the c63 and m3 dilema... And my dad would make fun of me if I bought the same car as him. He's had other Mercs in the past (e class and s class) and I always called them old man cars. lol. |

I haven't taken any pictures of it with my M3 yet since Ive only had it going on 2 months now and have been waiting for better weather. They should look pretty sharp sitting together since the M is Melbourne Red and the C is Mars Red |

I was deciding this same problem a few months ago before I picked up my '10.
The M3 is a much easier car to drive on the track because of its great balance, the C63 is a much more powerful, harder car to drive fast. Although the C63 is still very very fast, you have to be a very talented driver to drive it as well as a M3 with a novice drive. I have only a dozen track days under my belt and last time when I took the E92, I felt if I was a better driver, I could squeeze out 1-2 seconds on a slow short track, I imagine it would be much harder on the C63. In the end, Im glad I got the M3. |

Only reason I'd say m3 is cause u already owned the c63. But u could get the new power pack in the MB...around 480hp

I have both and they are great cars. The c63 is a little faster. The m3 handles a little better. The c63 has a stiffer suspension. I would say somewhere between stiff and normal on the M3. The interiors each have there better areas. The only reason I prefer the M3 is because it's a coupe and 6 mt. And if your going to mod there are way more options with the m3.

Two things kept me out of the C63, the tranny, and the suspension. The seats however, are fantastic. If it was available in a manual with either a softer or adjustable suspension I'd probably be driving that over the M3.

I think the C63 would be a better daily, but neither is considering the gas milage.
That low end torque on the C is something the M3 just can't have short of a SC. Funny how you say the tranny sucks, I loved it to be honest. And THOSE SEATS, my god. Looks like I'm going into a fighter jet.

I DD my M3 and the mileage is OK to me, it's the range I wish was better. But I make do.
I'm not sure if you directed it at me, but it's not that I thought it was a bad tranny, it's just not a manual. |

As far as the tranny goes, there is nothing wrong with it other than it is totally boring to drive an automatic, even if using the paddle shifters compared to 6MT and having a clutch.

couldn't agree with you more...I had a loaner a couple weeks ago when I took the M in for service...had a 335i w/paddles. It was so boring...I know, I know, the M's DCT is much better than the 335's tranny...but, still there's no clutch! I need more activity w/my feet...gotta have a 3rd pedal! |

It's still there: http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/#/vehicleComparisonMenu/ I was a bit shocked but if you check the AMG website it shows the correct number there, funny they haven't updated it - unless that is the new WHP number |
