Cost to Register Car with State

So I had to pay for my 2010 license tabs for the state of Minnesota. This is for the second year of ownership - $650. Seems crazy. What are you guys paying in other states?

$425 through the dealer (that's estimated, I usually get something back) for Tag and Title. Florida went up, it used to be something like $150, but my State has increased fees and started nickel and dime'ing on things.

ETA: Sorry, you meant the yearly renewal... It was around $50 yearly, it's a little higher now, I think $75-$100. Everyone pays the same, doesn't matter what you drive.

My second year was ~$2,000. Quite a shocker. Apparently, Ad Valorem tax is deferred until renewal on new car purchases in the state, so I was paying 23 months.

I pay $5 per hundred dollars of valuation with a small discount on that rate for the first $20K. AND we in VA (though the amt varies by county) pay it every year. Haven't gotten the bill yet but it should be in the $3k-$3.5K range. That's where my 650s started when new. Taxes are taxes and they get you one way or the other, but VA personal property tax on cars and boats truly sucks. I'd love to be paying $650.
