Help! Trouble sleeping

I am obsessed and cant sleep well. I obsessed over the decision between 335i or M3 (Chose M3) Color jet black or Jerez (Chose Jet) Premium stereo or standard (Standard unless I frantically call my SA tomorrow morning). Spent weeks negotiating price from multiple dealers from multiple states (local SA finely came within $500 of next best price from 3 states away). I finally ordered my car yesterday, hoping to put an end to all this and yet I still found myself up last night in bed at 3 in the morning hunting the forums on my iphone to find out about blacking out the chromed door trim, and who to get my first detail from. To Zaino or not to Zaino.

HELP!

What am I going to do for the next 6 wks?! I know I will be constantly checking production status, which ship did my car get on, where is the boat, what is the weather along the route? - as I did for my 335i.
What have others done? Is it easier to wait the second time around? My wife and co-workers are sick of hearing about my M3, and I am embarrassed I tell them so much. But I cant help it, it has taken over much of my thoughts.

Is there something wrong with me?
Is this normal for my first M Car?

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Ordered 6/9/2010 - awaiting production date

You are normal! I ordered my car in April for July delivery and have been second guessing my spec ever since.

I took delivery of my 2011 E93 in May, and while I'm totally and deeply in love with it, I do regret not getting the premium sound. Just my two cents...

You should have gotten Jerez black....
...now that I said that you will never sleep!

But yea I have changed my order a few times and thank god I was able to get all ny changes in. Last second I changed to add bluetooth. Then last week I changed to add backup warning system. My SA wanted to kill me.

now that I sold my E46, I'm just sitting around trying to not get hit by a bus until my new M3 arrives. I have to wait till mid-august for delivery and I'm already starting to go bonkers. It's taken over my thoughts and my GF is sick of it too. Just finished parting out my E46 and she thought it was over. It isn't. She can't wait for the car because she is excited also but wants me to stfu about it because she already had a dream that I replaced all her pictures with pictures of the M3.

The wait is torture and unfortunalely she's getting tortured also.

I HAVE to recommend Enhanced Premium Sound. All else you will be happy with.

I was a little anxious about the color but not like this. Sounds like you need to relax. It's just a thing. If it's having a negative effect on your live that's bad. What are you going to do when you get your first scratch?

The trick is to find something to put your mind on and don't think about it. Time will pass by very fast and the next thing you know is that you are picking up your car in a few days. But I am with you on this, I hate waiting for stuff.

I had to laugh when I read this post because I thought I wrote it! Man, I haven't even pulled the trigger on the car and I feel this way. I have owned a bunch of cars in my life and I don't think I have thought about one more than this. I go back and fourth on color (Black vs Jerez vs White), Enhanced Premium Sound (to do or not to do) and wheels (18 vs 19). Like the 19's but looking at HRE vs VMR vs Alufelgen. I swear, sometimes i think I should just keep my 335 and be happy. Hell, I love the car a lot, just looking for a change. I feel your pain. Hope to figure out my situation this week

This is a good "problem" to have.

The key is to put a few more of these "problems" in the pipeline and get your fix every week.

I bought a holdover 08 last year, so the only thing I waited for was the paperwork to get done.

Oh, and get the Premium sound. I had a $10k custom setup in my previous car and I am not missing it at all. It's easily the best sounding stock system I've ever heard.

Advice? On your obsession, on a car forum? Most folks here are just as bad or worse buddy! I'm not making fun of you, just saying most of us have been there, and are there, and will always be there. It never ends. Once you get it, detailing, break-in, tires, wheels, mods, etc.

It started with the 335 for me, and it's never gotten better. Not that I care much, it's a hobby and a passion. Something I enjoy, and fortunately something my wife enjoys (went for an hour walk tonight and talked nothing but mods for our two cars...and here I am on the forum now).

So....as far as things go around here on the forum, yeah, you're normal!

It never ends. You're GF will soon discover that! Once you get it, you'll be gabbing about this and that and the other. It's the nature of the beast. But in the meantime, I recommend a nice dinner and no discussion of the car. (That's my wife's recommendation--and she's a car nut!) That dream is pretty clear in exposing some deep seated fears of being replaced.

Enjoy the car when it arrives and keep an eye on those wayward buses!

trust me there are many non car discussions. Guess cuz my gf makes a fraction of the money I do she can't frolic in the enjoyment I can. However i'm taking her to germany for the car to make up for it.

However I told her someday the X5 will be on her list and she will swarm in the love.

hehehehe

Thanks glad to know I am not alone, I just have this kind of obsessive personality when it comes to buying new toys. My wife grew to accept this along time ago. She is actually glad when I finally buy my toys so I can stop obsessing over them. Even though there is just another around the corner(TV and Stereo equipment -- AVSForums anyone?). For those of you who seemed actually concerned, please don't be. As someone said these are good problems to have. I over research everything, but I am usually very happy with my purchases buy the time I get them. These are hobbies to me, and I am well aware they are just things.

Still debating the stereo, damned if I do, damned if I don't. I am leasing so this seems to be a waist. I doubt I would be disappointed with the stock stereo, but will always be wondering what if? if I don't get it.

get the EPS... it's 10x better than what comes in the 335 and the stock M3. I really only see purists getting the basic stereo ... that or people who don't care about music that much. If you're a music person it's a must have.

+1. I heard the EPS for the first time this week with some good quality sound sources (deliberately took a couple of CD's with me). One listen and I was incredibly glad I had that system on my order.

Of course, I then changed my order to Interlagos Blue and added a DCT after driving that car...

Damn this waiting sucks.

I was the same way for almost a year, I first test drove the M3 in September '08, obsessed about whether I could afford it for months , did detailed spread sheets on my cash flows for 8 months to see if I could afford the payments (I ended up paying cash), ordered the car in late May, then did a spreadsheet counting down the days until my car's expected delivery in August.

I ordered a set of RAC Monolite wheels and researched other mods. I called BMW two to three times a week to see where in the order/production queue it was, then when production was completed searched the internet to find out what ship it was going to be on, tracked the ship's position until it arrived in Halifax, found out how long it took to deliver a car from Halifax to Toronto by rail.

Went to my BMW dealership with a camera on a Sunday, because my calculations were that the car arrived late Saturday (I had called the dealership that Saturday at closing time, it hadn't arrived yet) took pictures of it over the security fence in it's delivery protection plastic coating. Went to the dealership on Monday to get pictures of me in it with all the delivery protection stuff still on. went to the dealer twice more to lurk around and look at it before the prep was finished. Picked up the car on a Saturday drove it for a while, scratched the front spoiler, went home to find my wife was throwing me a surprise party and I couldn't drive it all night as I had planned.

My advice to you regarding trying to get to sleep do not, under any circumstances, imagine yourself driving the car. If you do you will be awake at 4:00 am going crazy.

Enjoy the anticipation.
