What gives with all these BMWs I see with 1 headlight/angel eye out?

I've noticed that there's a lot of BMWs out there that have a headlight out or the angel eyes on one side don't work. It's not limited to just one model either, I've seen 3, 5, X5, 7 series with it. Strangely my left light also went out on its own while driving today but came back on 1 min later -- and my car is less than a month off the lot.

Is there something wrong with BMW's headlights these days?

BMW is cutting back to save money...only 1 headlight and angel eye per car. They are urging people not to drive at night. If you order the car, you can choose which headlight you want to work.

I've had both sides burn out within the past 3 months. My SA told me that BMW recently suggested that both sides be replaced if one goes out.

After 2 years and 25,000 miles, this is the first problem I've had. Does anyone know how much these bulbs cost so I know what I'm dealing with when the car goes out of warrranty?

I was thinking the same thing the other day. I've noticed a few cars with the angel eye on one side out.

Mine just burned out. I just turned off DRL so as not to look like a cyclops. My bet is most people are too lazy to deal with it and those that bought after market 'white' bulbs will burn out more frequently as mine did after 3 months.

Its just a regular H8 bulb you can get at any parts store...a few bucks.

Are you sure you're not talking about the turn direction indicators, where one inner headlamp lights up?

same here, have not gotten a chance to go by the dealer to get it fixed. Might be a simple bulb change but it does not look simple to get to the bulb.

LOL Mine just went out the other day! Damn! I'm sure when I get it fixed it will only be a matter of time before the other one goes out

This is for my 335 BTW. Same concept though

Looks like its a common problem on E60/61 5 Series, E63/64 6 Series, E70 X5, E71/72 X6 and E90-93 3 Series.

BMW has a SIB for it, # SIB 63 04 10 dated April 2010.

The fix is to install a Philips H8 AR "longlife" bulb in each side. The bulbs the cars came with are "standard life" bulbs. It's covered under the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Part number for the bulb is: 07 11 9 906 503, 2 are needed. Looks like at a dealer, they would each cost about $25.00.
