Why is BMW sending me a credit card?
My accountant (a.k.a. the wife) said it came in yesterday’s mail, and that I rec’d a Visa card (actual plastic) w/ a 15k limit (no idea of terms). Does every M car buyer get these? I didn’t ask for it, nor do I want it. I’m just curious why they did this. I’d rather have gotten the carbon fiber pen. Cheers to all (in the states) this beautiful Saturday evening. |

Don't they offer those when you're signing your papers @ the dealers?

Mini does the same thing. When I signed for my Cooper S they asked me if I wanted a Mini CC. I figured why not, it came a few weeks later. I think they asked me the same when I got my M and I said no. Maybe you were just so overjoyed you said Yes inadvertently or the dealer just submitting it for you.
Might have something to do with BMWFS as well. |

That’s what I’ve come to presume. Either BMWFA did it, do to me financing 30k w/ them, or the dealer just checked a box on a form he shouldn’t have. |

They offer it to you and you go through your finance paperwork. The finance manager probably slipped that in with the many "standard" forms your sign. I almost signed it by mistake as well but then passed on it.

I got one without asking too. BMW FS called and said they would send me some information on it and if I liked it I could sign up...next thing I know I have a credit card from them. Pretty cheesy business practices BMW.

Well you wanted a car to drive fast, so they sent you a card to help you spend fast... Very thoughtful if you ask me. Bought an ///M wallet and boy it spends money fast as hell.

I applied the BMW card and had it for 2 years or so, back in 2004, than they sent me the Ultimate Card. Nothing special but still use it daily. Company write off.. |

It would look cooler if it had a pic of an M3 on it. Come to think of it, doesn't BMWCCA offer this -- basically a picture of any BMW on a VISA (or maybe it's MC) card?
Cheers.

Your dealer did something sneaky. I work at a dealership and hes probably collecting a little more commision off the card you have due to us getting paid for front-end purchases and front-end deals through our credit company.

They tried to sneak a credit card contract into the "standard paperwork" for me to sign. I actually signed the form and then realized it was a credit card application. I told the guy to discard it and he tried to convince me how great it was to have a BMW card. I just told him again to discard it and moved on.
Thats pretty shady business IMO but I thought it was something related to Herb Chambers as this was in keeping with their overall behavior, but it looks like others dealers act the same way... Just be mindful when signing your paperwork and make sure you know exactly what you are signing.

you must have told your dealership that you were interested in opening a card. Usually they ask you that right before you sign your paperwork and if you say your interested then they send you one. If you don't want it just call and cancel it.
