Starting to get bored of the M3...

I have had my M3 for over two years now and am starting to get bored of it unfortunately. I think this may have to do with my moving to Arizona from Washington state. We had tons of fun roads up there and hell even driving in Seattle was fun with all the twisty roads and highways. No such luck down here in Tucson. I am unable to enjoy the cornering of the M3 on a daily basis and decent car meets are pretty much non-existant . I need more power so I can enjoy the straight as an arrow roads down here. Have been dreaming about a used 997 turbo for the past month now, so hoping to get into one next year. Just wondering if anyone else is also getting a bit bored of the M3? Great car, have had TONS of fun with it (in WA), but I think I just want something with more power and speciality to it. Have thought of an ESS SC since they are local, but I think it would still lose to a slightly modded 997 turbo, especially from a dig.

Isn't Arizona just one BIG photo radar speed trap?
Go to Las Vegas Speedway with the LA BMWCCA in October. I'm sure there are local chapter events too.

I'm glad to be moving from AZ. There is a cars and coffee first Sat morning of every month in Gainey Village near Bloom restaurant. Right now in the summer it's really early in the morning like 7:30 and still too hot for me.

I believe some of the vbox times suggest you would do quite well with an SC against the older turbo. No arguement on the dig aspect though.

This.

A day at the track always makes me fall in love with the M3 all over again.

If there are not enough curves in the roads to enjoy the M3, how will the 911 Turbo be any better? Same goes for the car meets - probably no better there either.

Maybe you need a top fuel dragster? J/K - But I feel like a Porsche will just be an exercise in frustration just like the M3.

911 turbo has a LOT more straight line speed. 0-100 of M3 is around 10.5s with a 6MT whereas 997 turbo is 7.9s. That is a huge difference.

I really don't want this to come off sounding like a message from the local tourism board... as I do feel your pain.

South of River Rd you're lucky to find a hill much less a curve so I really understand where you're coming from. In the foothills and in Tucson Mountain Park the roads get more interesting. Depending on where you are in town you may be looking at a slight detour... or a major re-route.

Once you get out of town you get some phenomenal roads which are perfect for day trips or just "goin drivin'"

For instance, last Sunday in an effort to burn off some break-in miles I drove from central Tucson (Sam Hughes area) to Show Low (in the White Mountains). This worked out to be about 420 miles, took 8 hours, and was the most fun I've had driving a car in a long time. Once out of Oro Valley AZ-77 gets progressively more twisty and more interesting. Coming out of Globe US-60 is an absolute blast... plenty of curves, climbs, descents, to keep you focused on driving.

I realize that this type of trip requires some time and planning, but it's well worth it and definitely makes up for the boredom that is driving in Tucson.

I'm amazed at how well the car performed (even within the break-in limits).

Keep in mind that Tucson is a cruising town and not a driving town. I honestly don't know if a change of vehicle will make you appreciate driving in town any more.... as there's not much to appreciate about driving here.

When you get bored it just means it is time to do mods. You can make it as fast as you want in those straight lines for some $$$ and fall in love with it all over again.

997.1 turbo has 480hp and 500 torque stock. Chip and exhaust will yield around 500whp and torque! Hopefully next year...

No doubt the 911 is faster, yeah. But going fast in a straight line is only fun for so long. At the end of the day you still spent a lot of money for a great handling car that you are not getting to make use of.

2011 Mustang GT500 or Z06 is a bit cheaper than the 911 Turbo. Though the Turbo is totally sick, just lots of money. Though if you want to read about the new Shebly, heres a link.

I don't mean to sound critical but considering all the mods you've done to your car in just 2 years, it's a bit sad that you're already bored with a car as amazing as the M3...

You seem to just want the P-car and are trying to rationalize your decision. If you can afford it, more power to you. Just do it.

This is a regular cycle lol. Had my first e46 M3 cabrio for one year...was modded out. Had my e46 M3 coupe for a bit over two years, modded out as well. Had my 997 C2S for 8 months...modded out as well. And now the e92 M3. I originally was absolutely set on getting a 997.2 GT3 next but I fear it will suffer from the same issues as the M3...no fun daily roads. So due to this I think a turbo or Nissan GT-R would fit the bill better here. If I was still in Seattle I would for sure keep the M3 until my warranty is up in May 2012 and then get a 997.2 GT3. Two totally different geographic locations and imho need different cars for each.

Definitely go with the 997 turbo if you are not factoring money into the equation. As someone else mentioned the Z06 is a great alternative for probably what you pay now.

But if you want a fun car to cruise in and wicked straight line power, you should go with a classic/hot/resto rod Not to mention you won't be losing tons of money on it either. I've actually made about 15 grand on mine since the last time someone tried to buy it at a gas station.

So keep the M3 for your daily and pull out the hot rod for when you want a little extra fun.

Thats not a bad idea actually. Why not buy a classic GTO/Roadrunner/Camaro/etc and mod the hell out of it. One thing great about classics and mods... there is always something else to do with it.

As much as a great idea this is, classic cars and hot rods just don't do it for me. There are a handful of American classics that I like, but they are cars that would be quite expensive to get into as well. I figure a 2007 997.1 turbo will be around $75k in a year or so with low miles so not a bad time to get into one provided business is going well for me. Otherwise, once my wife and I have kids then it will be even tougher to get one.

I've had plenty of exotics and those get boring too if you drive them enough. Only fun I had was taking them to Tortilla Flats and Bartlett. The tickets were not fun so had to sell.

Well you make a good point and that is probably true of most cars out there. I think the 997.1 turbo would be a good starting point in what will be a long-term car for me. Keep it stock for a few months, get some coil-overs and wheels, then an exhaust...and then rehaul it to make 750+ whp. Should keep me entertained for some time to come hopefully!

I lasted 8 mos w/a 430 and 3 w/an lp560. AZ is just a boring state for cars and the cops are a bunch of liars.
