Is it really a Beast????
I think the E9X M3 looks a bit refined, kinda blends in with the nicer looking cars. Driving through town I get the occassional thumbs up, or will see people checking her out in the parking lot.
BUT..................! When I hit the Autobahn people get the hell out of the way, almost like I am driving a tank or something. In my Challenger (which looks meaner) people did not give me such a wide berth. In the M, I have cars moving over 150 200 meters before I reach them. Strange, I have been driving on the autobahn for 17 years and with several different cars and never had that type of "respect" given. Thoughts?

Maybe drivers just know what it looks like the rear view mirror since they've seen quite a few go by already and are aware of the car's capabilities? I'd expect that driving on the autoban you'd get a good idea of what cars can actually power their way by and react accordingly....
Probably best to get some folks who drive the same roads you do to weigh in though. |

Man am I jealous that not only do you get to drive on the best roads in the world you get polite drivers who pull to the right when a car is coming at a faster speed.
Here we have assholes that drive 60 mph in a 70-75 flow of traffic pattern and they could care LESS about the people behind them. And yeah, it's definitely a beast Respect the M

What I would give to get a chance to drive mine in Germany. People here get out of the way after you're up their arse for about 2 miles and they accidentally glance in their rear view. The car is a beast for sure, but most people in America couldn't care less because to them you're just some jagov in a Bimmer.

Douche stigma seems to be default, kind of surprised me. When I drive my GT500, everywhere I go people come up to talk about the car. But in the M3, the most I've gotten is a "nice car" passer by who quickly turned and walked away, as if I was going to scold him for looking at the car or something. I'm not that type of guy but I definately get the assumption put on me. And 335 drivers won't even look at me.

I call it the NASCAR mentality. Americans like cars that go very fast...in a straight line. Why do you think there is almost no Rally, F1, or Touring car coverage in the US? People don't appreciate it nbor the cars that are used in those series.

I think the "Douche" stigma varies in different areas. Where I live in Florida there are as many BMW's as anything else out there, so no one seems to care or judge you because of it. In Maryland, depending on where you are, a BMW is like you are driving a Pinto or something. So much money in some of the areas around there. I grew up there and know what is driving around some of those areas, so again they don't care, and are certainly not going to move out of your way. They are "entitled" to be in the left lane driving slow if they choose to do so.

In all honesty...when I see "high performance lights" I tend to move over quickly because i think its moving fast and it is high performance vehicle behind those lights.

I experienced the same thing on the autobahn, although I got more respect with my S5 and the LED running lights than I do with the M3. Either way, the Audi got way more respect than the M3 does here in the states. I don't care, the M is more fun and I didn't buy it for the "respect" of others.

That was my experience on the autobahn with my car. I'll never forget driving 145-150mph and getting passed by a Ferrari doing 180+.
It was terrific seeing the Ferrari get into the middle lane after the pass. After all the left is for passing only.

South Spain is not bad either as far as traffic goes. If some Mericon is in the passing lane you just put your turn signal on like you are going to pass him on the edge of the road, he will get the hint eventually.
This car is a refined beast, a whole lot of creature comforts, with the grunt.

Yeah, it's a beast alright. I tell people that it's not a "hump" on the hood, it's a huge f**king bicep.
As for the douche stigma surrounding the car, Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson said it best: "Before it seemed like only a cock would buy one. Now, it seems, you're a cock if you don't." Too bad he also said that "M3 drivers have no friends," but that's beside the point.
