Is the competition package worth it on the e92 M3?

Hey guys, I've been following the forums for a while now and I finally decided to contribute! I have a question that's been on my mind for a while now. If my e92 M3 will be dct and will be a daily driven car, is it worth it for me to put the ZCP competition package on it? I will take it out to the track maybe once or twice every year, not too seriously but just for fun. Does it make that big of a difference? I want to see the pros/cons as ill be driving a good 30-50 miles a day. And btw i love the 19" inch ZCP rims! Thanks in advance!

It definitely is worth it, even just for the look. The rims look great especially in person and the car looks good a little lower

Dude, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum!!

Use the button, there are 10 threads on this question in the last week alone.

Unbelievable.

And of course it's worth it, BMW OEM lowering springs, BMW OEM re-mapped EDC, OEM by BBS wheels... It's WELL worth it. Those are some of the most gorgeous wheels on any M car... I'd buy it for the wheels themselves.

I would say it depends on how you option the car. If you want EDC and 19" wheels, then I think its a no brainer just in terms of the lowered ride height and electronics remapping. Not sure how the new pricing works exactly, but with the old pricing its was a difference of like $300. If you don't want EDC or maybe want EDC and 18's, then maybe not so much.

EDC and 19" wheels is a must. For $2500 +/- extra, why not get the latest and greatest.

I would say you to wait, until (spetember) all the M Performance Programm for M3 is revealed. It it is said to get new seats, exhaust, engine and suspension tweaks, and also the Style 359 M rims, probably also in black, as the new M3 Tiger Edition, that will have the same colors and finish as M3 GTS, so Fire Orange and Black Chrome (for chineses market). It might be a better choice to save on ZCP, and 19" rims, and get M Performance rims and exhaust.
My 2 cents.

I agree with the people that said if you are getting 19inch rims you might as well spring from the comp. package.

Welcome! IMO, the ZCP pkg is a steal over here in the US. It costs 5,000 Euros in Europe, almost $6,500!

It really depends on your wants and needs... It's like saying is the Technology Package worth it, or are folding seats worth it, etc. Seems like a fair deal if you want the stuff, I'm perfectly happy not having it.

Well I have to say that I just switched. It's only $250 MSRP. To me that is a no brainer.

I was recently in the same position as you, and elected to go with the ZCP package. I use my car as a daily driver (and an e46 ME before that), and may only track it occasionally. I've had no problems with speed bumps and crappy PA highways, but am always on the lookout for the deep potholes.

The look of the wheels and lowered suspension is what sold me on it. Although some of the ZCP may be mostly "marketing" I decided I would rather purchase it now rather than have any possible regrets later.

Whether you get it or not, the e92 is an awesome car and the sooner you decide and order it the sooner you will experience it!

worth it? what else does it come with?

hello there. sometime this week i'll put in the order for a september build. i wasn't planning on going with comp because i am not a huge fan of the wheels. now that i've seen them on an alpine white car (which i am also getting), i really like it. since i was gonna go with the 19"s which are now 1250 AND damping which is 1000, i may as well go for comp which gives me more performance upgrades. what else does it come with aside from wheels, damping with another mode and lower suspension? positives? negatives?

EDC button in the BMW M3.

MPW: How is the EDC in the Competition Package different from that in the serial production vehicle?

Wänninger: In the BMW M3 Competition Package damping in the Sport mode is now regulated too - in the serial production model it is based on a fixed level.

MPW: How is this done? Is the BMW M3 faster due to the Competition Package?

Wänninger: Yes, the car is measurably faster. In addition to the special EDC set-up, this is also due to the increased width of the rims included in the Competition Package, which permit a larger a larger contact area of the tyres in conjunction with optimum, constant pressure distribution. The lowered suspension at the front and rear axle not only provides visual benefits, it also drops the centre of gravity. The enhanced driving dynamics also meant that ABS and DSC had to be readjusted, too.

In standard EDC, both comfort and normal settings are fully active while the sport setting is passive. In the competition package the comfort, normal and sport settings are all fully active.

I wouldn't get it even for free mostly because I like my wheels better, plus they're forged vs the ZCPs cast . And will never track my car so don't care for stiffer suspension. Oh, and don't want my car any lower than already is in this town. It all depends on what you want.

Its funny, the perception on these forums is that ZCP sits really low but thats not really the case. I was worried about the lowered ride height as well living in New England and being no stranger to crappy roads. In the showroom they had a ZCP sitting next to a 335i vert and I swear the 335 vert sat lower to the ground than the M3 ZCP. I didn't do a tape measure measurement, but I measured with my hand and I would say the 335i vert sits a good 1 inch lower than the M3 ZCP.

As for the forged vs. cast thing, I think thats overstated. Yes forged is stronger and lighter, but let's not forget the ZCP wheels are still made by BBS and if there are indeed cast (BMW marketing materials still say they are forged) they are manufactured by the same high quality flow form casting method BBS uses to make its other high performance wheels (including CH and CH-R), so it really shouldn't be considered a negative. And what are they, about 1lb heavier per wheel? Don't forget they are 1/2" wider. For the record I prefer the appearance of the 220M's over the ZCP wheels as well so I am no ZCP fanboy.
