Buying advice needed
Guys - I'm in the market for a new bimmer...used to have a 6 sp 08 E92 335i loaded w/Jb3, 19" AluFelgen CSL reps, DCI. So I'm looking at perhaps getting into a 08 E90 M3. Here are the specs:
1. ~ 22k miles 2. novillo red leather w/ carbon fiber trim 3. premium package w/ navi and premium enhanced sound 4. 6 sp 5. HD and sat. radio 6. outside color: light blue/teal color (apparently an introduction color, don't know the actual name, but I like it, very rare as I never seen it) 7. springs - AC Schnitzer 8. CF front lip and kidney grills Sales price ~ 42,900k + 5100 extended warranty 60 months/100k miles (does not qualify for CPO because of modded suspension. OTD price around 51k Have not driven the car yet but it's either this or a brand new ED '11 E92 335i with all the bells and whistles including BMW performance exhaust and intake for around the same price (OR LESS most likely). What do you guys think? Is this a good deal? I know this is an M3 forum but I'm asking for unbiased opinions. Let me know your thoughts - pluses and minuses, anything! This is killing me, but I do prefer the E92 body style, the new car smell, the ED trip should be exiting (already did it for the 335i), dollars saved.... Thanks guys! |

Let's see, I recently placed an order for ED for a mineral white E92 with all the packages. Pricing I got for it was 500 over invoice and the total came out to be 63k(with comp package). So OTD 68k. I believe the E90 is 3k cheaper, let's say the same options, it'll be 65k (63k without comp package).
Pros: 1. saving 12k 2. 3 months waiting 3. The rare color? 4. Some aftermarket parts 5. 4 yr/78k miles left on warranty vs 4 yr/50k miles for new Cons: 1. You are not the first owner. 2. Cannot customized it to the exact way that you want it. 3. No new IDrive/LCI + all the other tiny changes since 08' Those are what I came up with in 5 mins, so for others, feel free to add to the list. In the end, it's your car, so you'll have to live with the decision. |

No time for a long answer, but the 08 Idrive is horrible compared to the 09.
Springs? If you're into handling and performance I'd take a long look at the suspension section regarding springs on the M3. Unless you address suspension travel issues (like Dinan, or go with DIY modifications for addressing these issues) or go for coils (or the G/C route) the general consensus is the car is not going to handle as well as stock. So the springs aren't a bargain. On the other hand the price isn't bad, but the mileage is a tad high for my tastes. I think you could find an 08 with lower miles in that price range (maybe), or an 09 with lower miles, revised Idrive--but it's going to run more. See what others chime in with.... |

Is that a BMW extended warranty or an aftermarket company? That price seems a tad low.

+1.............. 22k HARD driven Miles. Used 08 M3 with aftermarket mods with no idea of how it was driven or a 2011 335i loaded for less? If I was faced with the same delimna 335i.

Thanks guys for solid advice! As legendary as the M3 is, I can't see myself in a car that has been (most likely) driven HARD! The car is nice but not ideal - really like the E92 style (don't have kids so no need for 4 doors) and I'm not digging the mods. So I'll get the '11 E92 335i, and wait a year or so till JB3 or Vishnu come up with tuners for the N55 motor
Sorry guys guess I won't join your elite club- not yet at least! Thanks guys... |
