Double Din solution?
Has anyone seen a double din solution for the 1er (w/out nav)?
The AC controls would need to be relocated to the lower compartment, like the E46 with nav....I'm guessing there is nothing like this out there.... |

https://metradealer.com/api/vfg/view...ct/id/95-9306B Fit says 3 Series only right? how come the 1 series one says fits "1 and 3 series" https://metradealer.com/api/vfg/view...ct/id/99-9306B (click info tab) if the 1 series fits both shouldnt the 3 series also fit both? who wants to test out this theory?

I'd just call Metra and ask them directly...

It doesn't cost that much....I'd be willing to test it out once i'm ready to go the double din route...quick question though, where would the buttons go? (i.e. the row of buttons directly beneath the ac controls).

Are the buttons used for anything? I will have HK, but no heated seats |

I just called them, spoke with both customer service and tech support.....they weren't very helpful. They simply said that it won't fit, but couldn't give me any details since they don't have much information on the 1 series.

I think the bigger issue would be finding out how much space is available behind the dash to see if a double din would even fit back there. I know that for my e46, I had to cut and modify the ac vents behind the dash in order to make it fit....hopefully that's not the case here.

I'm also pretty interested in finding out more about a double-din solution. I don't have the heated seats so my panel below the HVAC controls is empty. A double din solution and moving the HVAC controls down a slot would be beyond awesome.

^^^ yeah...I'm thinking if enough of us request it from Rich (from e46fanatics), he might be willing to build one for the 1 series.

Why again dyou need a double?? Crutch has plenty of receivers that fit the 1ers when you pop out the factory headunit. Why double?

In regards to both of you, first off, the exhibit B photo shows a diff 1er interior setup, and also has the gay ass flip up big screen, i am speaking of a regular 1 slot receiver with everything you need mind the nav shit cuz thats not important to me, I have a garmin and it works fine, dont need to spend the extra hundreds of dollars on permanently installed nav..
I think only those who NEED the all in on nav receiver option permanently installed would have an issue with there being no dbl din option elsewhere. Me, if I wanted to change up receivers, which I dont, Id just go with a single with PAC controls to use the steering wheel. Bingo. I would consider it if companies like JL, etc. made a custom sub housing that fit the 1er, much like the JL stealthbox I had for my GTI, fit the left side of the rear inside the hatch perfectly, which then allowed me to mate it up with a amp bolted on the other side and a cd changer mapped to the receiver I had. So until someone makes a kit or a sub kit that fits the 1er perfectly like that, ill stick with the factory setup. Its not great for sure, but its not bad either. |
