E92 Hifi Upgrade Speaker Recommendations
I'm re-using some leftover Alpine Gear from an Evo that I had. The system I'm doing in my E92 M3 will have the following:
Alpine PXE-H660 processor (would love a bit-one but hard to find out here) Alpine PDX 4.150 amp for fronts & front under-seats Alpine PDX 2.150 amp for rear speakers Apline PDX 1.1000 mono amp Alpine 12" Type-X sub in ported enclosure in trunk, front-firing through open pass-through I'm going to try this with the stock speakers (with amp gains WAY down) for a bit and then decide on speaker upgrades. At least I'll have a real sub right off, and hopefully don't cook my stock speakers messing about. I'm looking for speaker recommendations, want full-range front sound with very good mid-bass, so I guess that means some kind of bi-amped 3-way instead of the usual SWS-8 route. What would you guys do in my case of limited space of the E92? I've reviewed past posts on this subject, but would like some current input. |

I'm also trying to choose some front speakers for my E92 (not an M3). You can find my thread (and a lot of other good info) over in e90post.com. These are the options I know about for a drop in replacement:
OEM Logic 7 Speakers (Not intended for aftermarket amplifiers) OEM Individual Audio Speakers (Not intended for aftermarket amplifiers) BSW Stage 1 Audio Upgrade (Not intended for aftermarket amplifiers) Focal Polyglass 100 VRS Focal K2 Power 100 KRS Musicar upgrade (Coming soon, ask VP Electricity) Fit with modification or adapters: Morel Dotech Ovation Morel Hybrid Ovation (http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=405224) Most of the 4" speakers on this list if you're creative enough: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=343673 The problem with using any OEM or BSW option is that they have less than ideal frequency response that are designed to pair with a specific amplifier. Without some way of adjusting the signal to the speaker, it's not going to sound very good. Last edited by Sirrus; 10-06-2010 at 12:20 AM.. |

For the front and underseat I would go with Morel Hybrid Ovation components and ADMW 9" midbass and either keep the rear OEM or go with Morel Integra coaxials as replacements if your budget permits. |

Now the real question is... Can anyone turn me on to a good Morel dealer that has stock? I'm in Hawaii, so the chances of finding product here are nil. Please PM me any good Morel dealers if forum rules preclude from posting such info here. |

For the Hybrid Ovations to fit your E92 M3 doors you will need a spacer like this: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...9&postcount=55 |

I'm fairly settled on getting 808MGuy's rings, but I am also looking at other solutions that may allow a deeper speaker in there. If I can figure out how to get the Morels in there with 808MGuy's ring, then that will be the route I'll go as he's local to me.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to get the Morels in there with my rings since they use the more traditional mounting scheme of attaching the adapter ring to the factory mounts. Technic's mounting scheme actually pushes the speaker towards the front of the door panel to create more space for a deeper speaker. The only thing with that setup is that the factory grill doesn't snap into the door panel anymore so it is attached to the speaker with dynamat. Unfortunately, you gotta give up something to get something in this case. There is no other way to get a deeper speaker in there. One method is not better than the other. Its a matter of what you are willing to sacrifice.

The rings that 808MGuy sells are what you would use to install the Focal speakers. They convert from the BMW 3 hole mount to the standard 4 hole mount. They only will work with very shallow speakers in the E92.

There's no reason Billy's rings won't work. Same with Ken's. You attach the speaker to the adapter and drop them in. I know that Ken's adapters will definintely work with the Morels. It's what I'm using and what Ken uses on all his E9x installs. Definintely hit him up for the Morels and the adapters.

I had a set installed using your adapters and Technic's mount. This isn't installed but you get the idea. Plus Technic custom factory grill install on Morel speakers.
