(Another) New member. Just picked up, jerez black
Hey, everyone.
As you can probably tell, I just joined the forums. I've found a lot of interesting information and hopefully I can contribute in due time. Anyways... A few weeks ago I went to my local BMW dealership (Rasmussen BMW, in Portland) thinking about placing an order for a fully loaded M3 in Jerez Black. The gentleman with whom I spoke at the dealership (Tyson, if you must know. Great guy!) called me back later in the day to let me know that he had one coming in in about a week that was configured EXACTLY as I had wanted to specc mine. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep over the next week. I went for a test drive as soon as it arrived, and instantly fell in love. I came over from an '05 545i 6MT (fanastic car.) Here are some of my thoughts so far: -Everything in the M3 feels cheaper than on my 5. From the leather on the seats, the way the turn signal lever works, and even the windshield wipers, it all feels much less premium. That's the only negative I've come up with. -This car is amazingly fun to drive. Absolutely amazing. I haven't driven it hard (haven't broken 5.5krpm once) nor have I driven fast (3 tickets, and oregon weather = driving the speed limit), although it certainly picks up speed quickly. -I spent many weeks thinking about whether to go with the 6MT or the DCT. I've been a manual guy my whole life, and I absolutely love manual cars. With that said, I went with the DCT... just to try it out. I'm keeping my 5, so I'll always have a manual car to drive when I feel like it. The DCT is fantastic. One of the best decisions I've made. It's smooth (without being too smooth), and incredibly quick. Anyone who's wondering whether to go with 6mt or dct, I would definitely recommend the latter. It doesn't take away from the feeling of being in control, nor does it feel any less "cool." -The jerez black is a great color. Looks very very glossy black in most cases, and then in certain conditions a nice navy blue. Anyways, I'll stop rambling, and close things off with a picture I took last night. PS. I have a high rez if anyone wants. :P Cheers. |

ADD: I had a 2011 528i rental for a couple days and didn't notice the 5 series leather or switchgear to be noticeably better. The 2011 HD display however, makes my 2008's look decidedly Fischer Price in comparison. ADD #2: Okay, saw you got it from Rasmussen. I've also been in the 3 ticket club in Oregon. One more, no matter what it is, and you've got an automatic 30 day suspension. Utter communism.

Welcome to the forum. I never had a 5 series so I can't compare. I will say it is a sharp looking fun bad ass car. It has a lot of buttons and a clean clutterless interior and I am happy with it. Well enjoy your car and good luck.

Congrats on the new car.
I too came from an E39 M5 to the M3 and found the interior a wee bit disappointing in terms of substantial-ness but you get over it pretty darned quickly. The one thing I miss most is the front parking sensors. Jerez is an awesome color -- just needs some TLC. I brought my car to a high end detailing shop and had the clear coat sealed when the car was new. Makes keeping the scratches/swirls at bay a little easier....

Congrats! The Jerez Black is almost mystical in how it changes shades and highlights depending upon the light.

Never got any sunlight when I picked up my car in Munich. Still worried about keeping looking great.

damn seems to be alot of jerez around the forums lately lol i came from a 535i and i can see where you are coming from but i cant say the leather and interior quality isnt up to par in the m3 compared to the 5 series. the 5 compared to a regular 328 or 335...yes i will agree that everything is pretty cheap in the 3 and the 5 is a huge step up in luxury. with the m3 i cant really complain because it still has all the same leather features but anything else you stress about just remember, its a sportscar

I've never regretted my Jerez...you'll love it and when you go to a meet you'll see why. The majority of colors you'll see are the White and Silver Gray. Congrats..

Agree with the quality of the interior materials. The dash materials and knobs do not have the sturdy feel that they used to (the lighting dial for example, feels quite cheap)
