M3 any known problems to watch for when going CPO
I'm starting to do my homework on the certified pre-owned M3 convertible e93. Ideally it would be 2008 or newer, low miles. Are there any known problems that I should watch for with these cars? Are there specific years I should avoid, what's the most common one that creeps up? Stuff like that - thanks
I made the mistake of buying my 740iL via private sale - never again. We recently got CPO -SLK and MB made it a point of telling us how rigorous their criteria is for their CPOs. I'm hoping BMW will be just as anal. I know going CPO will cost a couple of bucks more but - I'll also sleep easier at night knowing that I didn't just inherit a terminally ill patient |

I've unfortunately read some sad stories of problems with CPO BMWs so don't close your eyes. No doubt CPO provides some protection but you still need to look it over and drive it for a moderately long drive.

I hear what you're saying
When I had my e38 I learned after the fact that certain models with specific engines and lot numbers had some series issues. The 740 did have interesting issues around emissions - (didn't learn about this one until the MB dealer pulled the CarFax - which showed info that I didn't see when I pulled the CarFax at purchase time) and oil leaks.
I just want to be as proactive as possible before I cut the check. I'm looking around mid-year 2011 to do this. The M3 isn't the only contender but the primary one |

My E46 M3 was a CPO and the quality of it was not great. Multiple issues that I discovered when I picked it up and other issues I found a few days after. This is probably a dealer to dealer issue though.
