"E9xs are not linear and High revving!"
Got htis line from a guy that works at my local tire place. Apparently he has an e46 which he has modified completely and an e36 that he races. He and another guy were telling about about their new in stock Toyos Proxes 1 that they were raving about. He told me that he prefers his e46 to the e9X because he like the NA engines, linear powerband, and the high revving engine. I told him the E90x has all of that in spades. Eventually he says he knows but he still prefers the e46 due to the few E9xs which he has driven but left him relatively unimpressed. I didn't want to start anything or have them eFF'd up my wheels so I just nodded and went on my way.
These fools still manage to scratch my wheels, especially in the area around where the lug nuts go in. The nuts are also scratched up pretty good with all the shiny metal score morks on the dark finish. I am so used to all the fools not giving a damn about other peoples stuff I probably won't even complain about it. VOB BMW are such Fukk-ups, they pretty much got me used to it.

WTF!!!! you can say anything you want about E9x M3 but when it gets to high revving, it's just a fact not subject to miss-interpretations!! Listen man, I got the middle finger just stopping in a red light, the reason was, I was driving an M3. Get used to this *hit.

What do they consider to be high-revving if 8300 rpm is not? I can't comment on the linearity of the powerband but it seems to me that the M3 has a high-revving engine.

Tell them a honda S2000 isn't high revving. It's all in their mind. I had a S2k, that thing was high revving but it didn't feel like the M3. My m3 pulled through out the powerband. My S2k felt like the revs on the meter were just for show. <<<hope that made sense, im testing out this app on the iphone

Yeah, it seems it was sort of of sour grapes. I kind of got the feeling he was trying to explain and justify why he was happy with his e46 and the reasons why he did not want to jump to the e9X. I think it was more economics than anything else. Sometimes it is better to leave people delusional. Peace.

The broad and flat torque curve that the E9X M3 has it one of its most amazing technical accomplishments. This translates directly to a completely linear power curve. That person does not know their terminology nor the match between the feel of the car/engine and the term "linear".

I will say that although the E9X is clearly faster, the E46 was a bit more of a rush to drive. High revving or not, the E9X is much more restrained and relaxed at all speeds. This is a good and a bad thing.

E46 S54 engine is way too peaky. It delivers most of its torque above 5000 rpm.
The E9X S65 delivers a far flatter torque curve starting at 4000 rpm and goes uptill 8400 rpm. Interestingly, he should know E9X revs 500 rpm higher than the S54 (7900 rpm vs 8400 rpm).
