Anyone else waiting on the 1M before buying a e92 M3?
He fellas, it's been a long time since I posted. I sold my e46 M3 back in 08' and have missed it ever since. In the mean time, I had a 05' s2000, but nothing was as sweet as the old s54 engine. Long story short, I recently sold the s2000 in anticipation of the upcoming 1 M or a used e92 09+ M3. I love high revving engines, but after test driving the Z4IS and the M3, I gotta say I'm falling in love with the instant TQ.
My plan is to check out the 1 M when it comes out and if it's a flop, I'm definitely gonna pull the trigger on an AW e92 M3. Anyone else waiting on the 1M to buy an M3? |

yeah dude, I can't wait. 6 more days till reveal! I drove the 135 just for reference, and except it looking ugly, I liked the size and feel of it (that's what she said). Never gave N54 much of a thought, but having all your tq at 1200 rpm changed my mind. I test drove the e92 M3 as well, loved the interior and the V8, but the car felt a little big. It didn't have the perfect size shoe fit my old e46 M3 and s2000 had. The 135 felt just right in size. So either I'm gonna buy a 1M this summer after I get back from deployment, or an E92 M3....unless some more details of the next M3 become concrete.

The reason is that it would suck to get your car and leave it two or three months later while deployed. It deployment is another year away than pull the trigger.

To me, the 1 is so reminiscent if the E46 (which I love/ed) that the 1M is probably going to kick ass. I cant wait to see it. If it's coming out in 6 days, why not wait

Nope, they are completely different cars and I want that V8. I'm not interested in any BMW turbo product at the moment.

First: I love the 1 series, I owned a '08 135i and thought the motor was brilliant.
However, taking a 135i and slapping fenders and a bunch of M3 parts on it will always make it a poor man's M3 (IMHO). Now will the car perform? Of course it will. It's a BMW. Will it be the M3 killer, emm no.

Since the 1M will not be a limited time thing I'd go with the M3

Never gave it much thought. I am very skeptical about a turbo M. Time will tell.

thanks for all the advice, i've driven the e92 m3 and love the engine, the car just felt a little too big. I'll see how the 1M turns out, and if it's not to my liking, I'll definitely be in the the market for a e92 M3 (ZCP)

I firmly belong in this camp, and here's why: Currently I own an '07 E90 335i with ridiculously low mileage. The car is paid for, and I love every aspect of it's performance. Admittedly, it's the note of the V8, the subtle body enhancements and the ubiquitous "M" badge that draws me to the M3. That said, for me to afford an M3, I would have to liquidate the 335i, which at this juncture makes little financial or emotional sense. Additionally, since I do like the virtues of the N54 so much, coupled with the fact that the 1M is available in Valencia orange (my favourite BMW hue), makes that car a natural possibility for me.
I guess I'll have to wait and see what the official word on the 1M is before making a final decision. If I do opt for the M3 (meaning I'll only have one vehicle), it will be the cabrio version for sure. Asif |

I agree 10000%...the M Magic is disappearing for real....And I would take an NA V8 over any turbo-ed car anyday, not to mention a 1 Series. It just...doesn't look right. And I am sort of sure that it won't be one of M's best works.Yet I feel this will be a tuning freak! And no matter what engine they fit into the 1M, I will never picture myself in a 1 Series. I really don't like the looks on that car. Plus, why miss out what could probably be the last NA M engine not to mention the first and MAYBE even the last V8 M3 ? Need I yell out the magic number; 8,350 RPM

Going to stay away from BMW turbo'd M cars for a while, maybe forever. Love the usability of the torque of my X5M and 3.5d for daily use, but I won't give up the NA V8 in my track car...ever. If next M3 is TT6, than it will be the perfect excuse for me to move to a challenge stradale or scuderia.

Now it fits like a glove now! Handles like a car half it's size.

I haven't been following the 1M much. Can you get a radio in it? Every pic I've seen of the interior is without a radio.

If you're seriously in the market for an E9x M3, then why would you cross-shop it with a 1M (or vice-versa)? These are 2 different types of cars for 2 different types of buyers/markets IMO (don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't mind owning both if someone wanted to donate the 1M to me LOL ).
