2011 BMW m3 E92 engine clicking

I read a lot post regarding m3 engine clicking noise, and watch it on youtube, so many different noise, I am totally confused by my car.

This is my first time buy M3 , and run 700mile only, I can hear the clicking noise now( never notice before I knew m3 usually have such problem).

so I record a video after dinner, the engine was turned off on 5:30 PM and I started it on 6:30PM and record it . the engine is not totally cool down yet, it show me engine oil temperature is a little bit more than 120 F when I turn on engine.

please go
take a look on it.

I am worry about whether my engine have problem.

I don't think that is a "bad" tick, I think it is just a function of the motor at idle...it runs best at high RPMS and especially when the motor is cool (120 isn't anywhere near operating temp) I'm not surprised, in fact I'm pretty certain mine sounds identical to that

this is my first M too..and v8...Ive always driven sixes...my impression of the engine is that it is damn loud and noisy, but i like it! in addition, the manual already states that this car's motor AND brakes are noisy so im not worried. BMW makes might fine motors for sure..the only annoyance is the sqeaking brakes at only 400 miles..as long as it still hauls ass on the highway, i got no worries.....my only concern would be dct issues

thank you buddy, you make me feel better, my car has plastic burning smell 2 days ago, only on rear wheel, and I went to dealer check it, they said nothing wrong, nothing on exhaust, the smell should come from brake rubbing brake rotor . my question is: why front wheel is ok no smell?

I rev to 7000 rpm when 300 miles, actually racing with another car with M on for about 3 minutes, after that, everyday I have one time rev over 5500 with floor gas with M on, some time go 8500. hope engine no burning oil in the future. if no burning engine oil after 5000miles, I think we don't need follow manual to break in. will report here then.

The clicking sound that you are hearing is the sound of your injectors clicking. That is what a healthy engine sounds like. The engine in our cars is a very noisy engine and you'll have many other noises that will be normal as well.

That is exactly how my engine sounds. I have compared to 2 other M3's. And all of them sound like that. Its more notorious when you are in a confined space (garage) or close to a wall (ATM). If its in an open street you really have to look for it. Inside the cabin 90% of the times you can't hear the noise, but there are those infrequent times that if you pay close attention, then you can hear the same muffled noise inside the cabin.

The noise is not related to the 2011 M3's. There was an a..hole that reported the noise in the 20011's, but AFAIK a healthy V8 engine sounds like that.

CONGRATULATIONS on your engine and stop worrying.

here is the video

check time 1:38 , you will hear that, and also, this time is slight rpm drop, sometime really make me believe engine will turn off immediately by itself.

if you notice at engine oil temperature when start the engine, you will find it is more than 120 F .

That doesn't sound right. Probably the idle valve issue, but man, still having that on a 2011? The good news is it's going to get worse, but until you get the 'Christmas tree' of warning messages, don't waste your time at a dealer now. Good luck.
