seat memory buttons, whats the deal?!
Could someone explain how these work to me? I have a non Idrive m3. I've read the manual, but the manual mainly talks about idrive stuff.
How do you set the memory for seat 1, and seat 2? how do those get assigned to a specific key? if somone (my wife lets say) uses my key, but adjusts the seats manually, how do I get it back to my setting? I would think just pressing 1 (assuming im on 1), but that does not work. seems like it should be a no brainer, but I've sat there and messed with these and it seems non obvious. thanks |

With your key fob in, adjust your seat to how you like it. Then push M, then 1. This reserves this position for memory slot 1. If you adjust the seat again and push M, then push 2, it'll reserve the new position for memory slot 2.
Now, if your wife put her key fob in, she can do the same for slot 1 and 2 on her key. Then put your key back in and push and hold button 1, it'll go back to your key's memory 1 position. Same with with your wife, after you've driven and she gets back in, she puts her key in, and push and hold 1, she'll get her memory position 1 back. |

move your seat into the position that best suits you then hit the memory button (top button) then hit the 1 button (middle button). if your wife or anyone else moves the seat all you have to do simply is press and hold the 1 button and the seat will shift back to your specific position. the key you are using at the time of assigning the memory buttons will store the positions within itself. so if you use a different key than normal it wont have the stored memory from the key you normally use.

I've had my car two years and couldn't get it to work a couple of times so I ignored it. I hope its just like girls, the more you ignore them the more they come around!

so there are 2 memory locations per fob..ok, that explains it a bit. I thought memory 1 was for key 1 and memory 2 was for key 2.
hitting memory then the # to save is a little annoying. I never remember what button is what. I bet I have overwritten my memory by hitting m, then hitting 1, trying to hit one. It should be hold m and 1 at the same time, etc to store. thanks for the help. |

Notice that the M button is convex while the 1 and 2 buttons are concave. It's not perfect, but once you are aware of it this should provide enough feedback to allow you to distinguish the two very consistently.

First time I've ever heard of someone using the memory seat function for something like that. Do you have huge knees, or something?

Don't forget to hold the button for a few seconds while the memory stores your latest selected position.

5'9 165, and the wheel gets in the way when trying to get out. i have a third pedal so i like to be closer to the wheel. i wish it would just move back automatically when shut off, like my old merc did. why else would you need 2 seat positions for one key

lets say Im using my fob, and im on m1.
my wife gets in with her fob. will the seat go to her fob position 1? or her fob position (last position her fob was in). i.e. if I use 1, and she uses 2, will I still need to hit memory 1 when I get in. I think ill use position 2 to move my seat so i'm behind the b piller...for when im rollin through the hood hahah |

There is a setting in iDrive that you can adjust to change when the car moves the seat (key dependent settings). I have it set to start moving the seat once the door unlocks.*
As for the prior question about CA, you don't have to have the key in the slot for the memory to be set and assigned to the key.*

I'm pretty sure that's the way it is. Why do keys come with '1' and '2' stickers then? I put the '1' on my main fob, and '2' on the spare, to recognize them.
By the way, the best way to adjust the seat is after you open the door. Just touch the button and seat moves into position. Once you have the door closed and/or engine running then you have to hold it (annoying). |
