M3 F32: NA V8 & DCT or TT I6 & 6MT
The lastest "insider" info about the coming M3 is that it will get a TT I6 and no more be available as 6MT. IMHO, it is a horror. If to compromise, what would you rather prefere?
-That the next M3 comes with a TT I6, and the choice of a 6MT and optional DCT OR -That the next M3 comes with a further developped NA V8, and as the rumour says, "no more 6MT", as in the Ferrari 459 Italia, McLaren MP4-12, Mercedes SLS AMG, the coming Lamborghini, with only DCT available I am for M3 F32 with NA V8 & DCT, after all so do come the supercars now. I love handshifting, but it is not what makes a good car. Even the Porsche GT3 RS with PDK would still stay the best drivers car and be even faster. |

It isn't what makes a good car... it's what makes a good car even better to drive.
If I wanted a car with an automatic gearbox I would buy a lexus.

6MT is better in a sportier sense... but for people who use their Ms as a DD and do get stuck in traffic (101/405 anyone? 110 by downtown?) a lot, DCT is a great alternative.

Ah yes because it has two wet clutches instead of a torque converter. It's still an automatic gearbox.

MT is probably gone in future Ms- but I'll pay EXTRA to BMW to option in a MT instead of the DCT. I don't want an automatic M car.

IMO once you get rid of the third pedal the technolgy that does the shifting is incidental. Either the car shifts quickly and smoothly on demand or it doesn't and if I does I don't reaclly care how it does it. I seriously doubt the BMW will drop the MT in the new M3 and I personally hope they do not. CA

My M3 is 6MT and for the longest time I was wondering if I made a mistake not getting a DCT... When I recently picked up my 2011 S4 for the winter I chose the S-Tronic tranny (Audis version of DCT) and this confirmed to me that I did not make a mistake getting a 6MT on my M. Yes it shifts SUPER fast and the paddles are fun and from light to light I can take on almost ANY car with my S4 but in the end it still drives like an automatic. It actually made me love my 6MT M3 even more.

M-DCT is the bomb. I only drive it in manual mode S-5,MDM & sport plus. I was so torn when ordering my car I went back and forth. M-DCT makes the M3 a way better car and more capable.

It's due to the choices in the poll. Perhaps should've just made it: NA V8 vs TT I6

The point of this poll is moot. The next M3 is not going to have the V8.

The point of the poll is to see what is more important for the M3 in the opinion of M3 owner/drivers? A naturally aspirated engine or a manual transmission? Because the next M3 may have none of these. Why a V8, because a NA I6 will not be enough. Don't ask me why.

I hope that BMW is wise to give us the option to pay more if we have to to keep the manual.
