New to this Section but not forum
As you can probably tell by my post count, I am not new here. But the shift may require an introduction as well as a confession.
As one can plainly see, I joined the forum nearly four years ago; right before I took delivery of my E92 335i. It was a fantastic vehicle for the nearly four years of ownership, but there was always a wanting for more. Prior to the purchase, I had sold a well sorted Stage 3+ Audi B5 S5 which the current owner flew in from MN to GA to drive it home and still tracks it as of my last correspondence. I had assumed the 335i would satisfy, as I had intended on keeping the S4 until the new M3 came out, but impatience got hold of me and I made the move. Granted, the 335i is a fine vehicle and I enjoyed all the nearly four year of ownership. But the continued issues were growing concern. Then I started factoring in the intended upgrade costs and the picture wasn't looking bright. But more importantly, time availability has become limited due to business and family so there were constraints on when I could tinker/fix. This lead me back to my original plan in getting an M3 as it is ready out of the box. In fact, I do not plan on modifying it; now if I can just keep that commitment. For the confession, in the end, I should have just held onto the S4 one more year and purchased the M3. The way I went I ended up spending more with the combined costs of the 335i and M3 as well as the modifications to the 335i. Live and learn I suppose. As for the driving experience of the M3, what needs to be said... In comparison to the tuned 335i, it does lack the grunt. But all other aspects of the vehicle make that aspect irrelevant. The sound, feel and capability are more than a step up. What I love it the mechanical feedback and feel all while being compliant. As for the requisite pictures: |

Congrats, nice looking M3!
Good luck on the not modding thing, I tell myself that everytime...so far so good on my M3...except for the blackout grills and the black side gills, and the ESS SC I've been looking at. Ohhh, the AE exhaust sounds pretty good too. Have you seen my new wheels? They look pretty nice. The Challenge trunk lid looks great too...

Thanks, and I know the bug always bites. Perhaps age and/or focus elsewhere may allow me to keep my pledge as the urge has worn off quickly in the last year. Or just the realization of the tens of thousands of dollars I have wasted over the last twenty years of modifying vehicles. |

Welcome bro, she is a beauty! Did you buy a CPO (I think it is an 08 model) ?
I was at the same boat. I was going to buy a 335i and then upgrade to M3. Decided to get the M3 and so far I am happy with my decision. |

You did it right. In the end and as mentioned, I should have just waited one more year and got the M3. The S4 was fine (Stage 3+ making about 380 AWHP) but I got greedy after seeing a picture of an E92 335i back in early 2006. In the end I ended up with a one year newer vehicle, 15k less miles, two more doors and two more cylinders and out of pocket a little over $20k (differnce in cost versus the trade). |

BTW, Thanks for the welcome. I hope to be able to add to this community although probably not to the extent I attempted to in the N54 Technical forum. That consumed much of my time.

Coming from the 335i and also the previous S4, I thought I would be disappointed in the loss of low end torque. But with the shorter overall gearing, it pulls just fine. In fact, I am still shifting at about 4500 RPM while still staying well ahead of traffic. Besides that, all other apsects of the vehicle are several steps up as I was expecting. It is bliss to drive this thing.

Welcome Scalbert! I remember you from the e90post side of things. I was one of Shiv's Procede testers as well. Hope you do as much cool stuff for the M3 as you did for the 335i!

While I will learn the details for knowledges sake as well as to maintain the vehicle, I won't be experimenting on this one. |

Thanks, looking forward to the change.
And I finally got a good chance to test the handling prowess this afternoon on some country roads. This decision was absolutely secured after the first few apexes. The overall control and response was astounding. Pulling through a turn versus dragging a leg was remarkable. |

Good to have you here Scalbert. I knew it was just a matter of time. You'll find that the M3 will be boring, and by boring I mean you'll not have to fiddle very much with it in the garage. I've already put 10k on my '11. My tools are getting bored, as this car truly is a arrive and drive.
I do have one request, given your talents I task you with designing a building brake ducting, one very apparent shortcoming. Welcome and get it done.
