Anyone else put their car up until Spring?

I had to. She did well on the roads during our first light dusting, but I cannot stomach it anymore. I had to get a daily driver. Between the salt, possible Rock chips, and the nature of winter in general, 7XX miles will remain on her until the season changes, with the occasional ride around the block, maybe.

Good call guys I'm not a fan of subjecting our nice E9xs to the salt and nastiness either

She won't be a garage queen, but she does deserve special treatment at times.

No salt here in town, but on the highways they do use it. Still, it's my dd this year. Works great so far.

I had no choice as half my garage is still blocked by mounds of snow that I had no place else to dump.

My M3 will live in there with 20 miles on the odometer until it can get it out to play.

I really want to get the 1200 mile service done ASAP so I can enjoy the car!

I put mine away for the winter as it too much agravation to drive an M in the snow for myself.I have driven M's in the winter before and it is just too frustrating to drive at 5 mph in traffic with all the members of the Anti Destination League as they scare themselves attempting to drive.I would rather subject a truck to this kind of driving than a good car even though the M is not a bad all season car.

Living in a region that gets a lot of snow each winter, I wouldn't even own a high performance 2 wheel drive car if I had to drive it year round.

My M3 has never seen the snow. I only drive my 4.8 V8 X5 during the winter while my baby M3 hibernates.

I dont know how you guys do it

I drive mine year round, it's a blast in the snow. My wife and I were back east for 10 days over Christmas and New Years and by day 4 I was second guessing the decision to take the suv and jonesing to get back home and get the M3 out. How do go months without driving your M's??

I have a set of Dunlop Winter 3Ds on my car and it handles like a champ during the winter. As for salt and sand, it's leased so it's really no big deal to me.

NO WAY!! My M is my DD and will continue to be my DD. Only on snowing days (like today) I take the kids minivan to work. But basically, out of the past 8 months my M stayed in the garage for may be 7-8 days. I'm thinking about adding the new 4wheel Mini. I think I'm gonna enjoy it and it will come handy on some days.

Proper winter tires and off we go. Salt and sand can be washed off, it doesn't do damage the second it goes on your paint. It has to sit for days before any harm is even done. That's just me, though.

Dude.....bad example. You live in NC. It snows like maybe 1 day a year if that, and you say when it does you don't drive your M. I think this thread relates to people who live where you don't see the grass for weeks or months at a time. In Carolina they don't use salt or even really plow because there's not enough snow to justify it. It all melts in a day or two. Not a big deal to say your M is your daily driver.

You are right about NC, but not the salt part. They actually salt the roads 2 days before any expected snow so you'll be driving 3-4 days in salt just for the possibility of an inch of snow, still drive it and wash it.
The few days of snow in NC don't justify me buying winter tires and that's why I leave it in the garage on snow days, but have I been living in OH, I'd buy a Blizzak and drive it every day.

I pick my spots, but driving the M in the snow, w/ the right tires, is awesome, and great throttle and driver control practice for the track.

Saving it for spring is for wimps - No disrespect but really????

To all those who put snows on it and drive it as a DD, which is all an M3 is, good for you. You are actually getting what you paid for.

I may come off as rude, but for those that save a commodity 3 series as being a museum piece......I feel for you.....you just don't get it.

The M3 is great year round driver with the right tires for the right season why would you not drive the funnest car you own all the time.

I just got an F430 and am ordering Continental DSWs for it. I am not letting it sit in the garage waiting for a special day. Every day is a freaking special day!!!!!!!!!

Who the heck are you saving this car for???????.......And yes I am a certified Pompous Ass .......Steve

Relax. I drive back and forth to work a lot under all conditions. A beater is necessary; try 7 days a week, multiple times a day. I prefer a small beater for that challenge. When the weather improves, I'll take her out minus the stress. That's all.

I keep the M in the garage until the road clears out then I take her out for a spin to let the fluids run it's course. I have a beater that does a good job when it gets ugly outside.

It's called Afghanistan.....

I do store mine over the winters in Germany. I am not worried about the car's winter performance or my driving skills (grew up in New England), but I worry about all the other a-holes that simply cannot drive in the snow. I was home on R&R recently and cannot count how many SUVs that I was stuck behind because there was apparently a fear about driving too fast....

I already had an AWD vehicle prior to getting the M, so it takes the punishment while the M is safely kept in the garage and on greatly reduced insurance rates. Yes, the car is meant to be driven and I get to make up for it during the other three seasons on the autobahn.
