MY2012 starting in April?

A CA told me today that I needed to get in on the February build (which he only had one allocation for) as he would not be able to order me an E90 until April as there would be a hiatus (likely due to the MY2012 coming out he said). He also said that the factor and price would be higher. The deal he offered me was exceptional but I thought the rush to order (I prefer to get a May delivery vs end of March in a perfect world) based on his explanation was suspect.

Any insight on this is very much appreciated...

Thanks so much.

I don't think that the E90 M3 is going to get a 2012 MY model.
With the introduction of the F30 3 series being brought forward to the Frankfurt autoshow this Fall, I think the 2011 E90 M3 will march on till the end of summer and it will be the end of the line for it.

Incidentally, I've been in the market for a new E90 for about a year. I've become serious about placing an order in the last two weeks. When I went to see my SA last week, I was advised to put my order in right away. Apparently, E90 M3 production (according to the SA at least) will be monitored closely by BMW. If demand isn't there, production could be cut as early as May or June. I was advised that ordering in March would only give me a "50/50"chance of getting the car I want. The dealer has no more allocation for the E90 M3 bodystyle for the rest of the year.

The SA went on to say that he has another customer who put down a deposit for an E90 M3 two weeks ago, but no confirmation has been received as to whether or not he will receive a car at all!

While I'm convinced that some of this banter is simple sales tactics to convince me to commit, this thread makes me think that there might be some truth to the matter after all.

Anyone else?

Cheers
Asif

When I bought my car a few weeks ago, I was also told they would stop taking orders later this spring.

I'd doubt that the 2012MY is coming out in april since they just started a new update/options for 2011.5. I think that the 2012MY will start with September builds just like usual.

I may be wrong though because like mentioned above the E90 is going to be replaced with the F30 soon which might mean the demise of the E90 M3 one MY before the E92/93. I wouldn't doubt they will stop making the E90 chassis altogether since demand for the E90 M3 is relatively low.

It could go either way really so if I were you and I really wanted to get an M3 sedan, I would take his allocation now and you could possibly change your mind and go with the 2012MY car once it is confirmed that they will still be building it.

M3 continues as a MY2011. He's trying to sell you a car, doesn't know anything, or both.

There won't be a MY2012 E90 M3 but the E92 and E93 M3 are available.

BMW recently announced that the M3 will remain an MY11 model (the generally accepted unofficial terms are 2011.75 or 2011.99) through September of 2011. Your salesman is misinformed (as usual).

Was this publicised anywhere? (I'd like to send a copy to my SA). Conceivably, if production ends in September, there should be no difficulty in ordering in March, or even April correct?

Cheers

I was assured -by BMWNA thru my salesperson- that I can get a 10/11 production E90 M3 two weeks ago, and on top of that with Individual interior. So BMWAG is also supporting this production date as well.

It will be MY2011, though.

Really? That's news to me. The sticky in the F30 forum still says Geneva '12 (as of like three days ago, anyway).

Intriguing, Technic. It's not necessarily surprising the car will still be in production then, since - as far as I know anyway - The F30 won't be here until early 2012. But, it remains an open question as to whether there will be a short MY 2012 E90 run (which wound't necessarily include M3s) or if the F30 will be the MY 2012 and there will just be a very short period at the beginning of 2012 where there won't be any 3 series production.

Asif,

It was on the homepage, with production updates for the rest of BMW's lineup, a few weeks ago. Here's the link:

Mkoesel,
I hope you are right...I had read about the move to introduce the F30 early at Frankfurt 2011 in the current issue of the Roundel.
Maybe there is too much mis-information going on even the BMWCCA folks are caught in the loops.
