Cant let go. Am I crazy?
Dealer wants to buy back my car.I have a 01/08 build M3. It has 30k on the clock, sucks gas like a drunk on a six pack, no stop and go feature and other than a failed lamp not one problem. Want for new car says do it but my mouth said no. This car has been a tank. A dream to drive and still looks great. Am I stupid for not taking the bait on a new car?Warranty will be up in a year but for the first time I just don't care. All the new features and electronics just seems like more to go wrong. I actually like the simplicity/'outdated' technology of the 08. Anyone else in my boat?

You can get a new car without all the bells and whistles if you choose to - I did.
Then again if you're happy with your car you should probably just keep it forever. |

I'm assuming the dealer may have sent you a letter saying they want to "buyback" your M3 because there is so much demand for it? If so, dont let that persuade you, as they basically send out those letters to try to get you in to the dealership. Sounds like you really like your car so why make the change now if you aren't sure you want to let go?

Let me guess, dealer says they can put you in a new car for the same monthly payments.. yea its not much of a deal. Its an old trick for you to buy a new car.
Keep the 08.

But there's absolutely nothing simple about this car man, especially if fully-loaded, like mine. The engine is also super complex, with double VANOS, and the 8 TBs with idle valve, dual actuators, and all kinds of electronic crap. Wish it had a single or dual TBs without the extra complexity, weight, and height. At least in manual form, and with a mechanical differential, it could be worse . Hope it doesn't give me trouble, or reason to part ways with it before warranty expires in 2 years, because I also plan to keep it for a long time. Take care. |

I feel the same way, keep it. I have always had a great attachment to every car I've owned but nothing has come close to my the fun I have in E92. I get 2 new cars every 2 years and just usually have a last fun "parting" week with them before I have to tell myself its time. I am hanging on to my current M though. I've told myself that I'm not going to make the same mistake I made before with my SL63, E46 M and M coupe. Although I came across my M coupe over the winter and almost bought her back. I babied that car and her kept pristine but the guy who got it from the broker next trashed her including putting her into a wall

God, you must have been reading my mind, I was thinking of the same thing. I have one of the first out but have spent so much on my mods I hate to take it apart, also I have a fondness for my car. I put it away in the winter because of the drop and molded front and I am so excited to drive it once the winter is over. I love that it has miles on it and hasn't had any problems at all. I took it to the track for the first time last year and this car is hands down awesome despite my poor track experience. Stay with your car, new doesn't always equal better, get the extended warranty and drive the **** out of it.

Not saying you should do it but maybe entertain the offer? I ordered my 2011.75, made the deal on it with three months left on the lease (after saying no to turning my 08 in early for a prospetive buyer). Made a good deal, then 3 weeks later asked what they would give me for the old one if i turned it in that week...actually tunred out to be more and walked away with $4,500 cash ....
Buy hey I was seriously attached too...my wife is still making fun of me |

I commend you for your bravery....my 2008 was laden with issues compared against my current 2011.5, so I would trade for a 2011~2012 M3 if it was me in your position. However, all cars are different, and yours has been mechanically solid. Why trade in and take the chance of getting another car which might be plagued with problems?
