Torn AGAIN

Here is the situation............ I am not rich, I am a Federal Employee working for the Dept of Defense in Germany. The M3 has been a dream car, but the monthly financial hit is getting old. I have mine for sale and am looking at a 2009 E90 M3 Space Grey extended Fox interior fully loaded with 15k miles on it for 50k............. that would reduce my payments by about 200 bones a month and 3 sets of rims one of which are brand new ADV's... had my mind set on this (provided I get mine sold) until.........

I came across this:

2010 SHELBY GT 500...... 9800 miles for 48k...... I LOVE the Shelby and an opportunity to buy one in Germany is almost ZERO. I have seen one in person in the last 4 years.

What to do??

personally I'm not a fan of Shelby cars... but if it's what you want, and it's rarity, I say go for it

but i don't think selling a 11 to get a 09 just to save a couple bucks per month is worth it

look at the resale value in a few years of a 11 vs 09

11 will have warranty, 09 wont

Tough choice. That GT500 is a beast and it looks pretty good too.

I LOVE my M3 but I think you get more bang for you buck with the Shelby.

Any one with experience in both??? I have heard the GT500 has a tough time "hooking up" due to the 500 ft pounds of torque.

Wouldn't any car that is RWD. i personally love the white with light grey stripes. I could actually sell my 08 m3 and get a brand new GT 500 for an extra 10K. I have been tempted.

I am thinking resale value of the Shelby in Germany..... to a German may prove lucrative. I don't know. I have had a couple of hits on mine, but nothing serious yet, so this is all just speculation. It is difficult to sell high end cars to Soldiers, and an M3 is a "high end" car in my circles..lol

I've seen 3 or 4 in the K-Town area but I agree with the above comment, selling an '11 to get an '09 to only save $200/mo isn't worth it. If you were saving $300/mo AND getting better mileage it'd be another story.

Keep the '11.

How about Shelby's maintenance in Germany? I'd imagine it would be expensive and inconvenient.

I don't think you can go wrong with either car. It's YOUR budget, so do what makes sense to you. That said, I would still opt for the M3 over the Shelby, despite the power.

Not even worth it at 300
If he was able to save 300 AND get 8k or so cash in his pocket, then I'd say it's worth it

I remember being in Netherlands for a soccer tournament I played in and our tour bus driver kept telling me he really wanted a buick... I said, I love BMWs why not those? And he said everyone has them over here.....

I think you should get the Shelby. It's more fun to have a car that no one else has

I am selling my M for 56k and the M3 I am looking at is 47k...50k with the ADV's.

The Shelby is 49k so I am getting some coin in the pocket and saving on the Car Payment and I would imagine on the insurance as well.

insurance no.. at least not over here not sure how it is over there

see if you can get the 09 for 46k with the ADVs

sell the ADVs and you got it for about 44k.

That I would do

i know the GT500 you are talking about. the owner works near me. 2010's were very front heavy and all but undriveable unless you want to just go fast in straight line. i think its priced too high as well. Its been on the market for months now. german's have to pay import tax on top of vat for it so add 29% to the sellers asking price and you still have to add all the equipment to make it legal in germany. all added up, its cheaper for germans usually to just buy on the economy than importing one. hell, the cost of shipping a car over here is only $2K. they have entire US market to choose from if they wanted to go that avenue.

US spec M3 market is saturated in germany. I think it will be a tough sell at your asking price.

Maybe subliminally I dont want to sell it...lol

This looks like bad math.

You're talking about selling an '11 for a '09 just to save $6k?

Considering the higher resale value when you eventually do want to sell the car, the niceties of having a warranty (just wait until 1 halfway important component breaks), and the service... the savings just don't seem significant enough.

$200 / month doesn't seem like a fair deal in the big picture. Personally, I wouldn't do it...

You are already spoiled with your M3.
Going to the Shelby may be exciting at first, but it will get old very quickly on you. You may regret the decision.
Certainly there is something else in your budget you can cut... perhaps food and water!

IMO you will regret it I think. The m3 is better in every way despite power.
get the 09 which sounds like a good decision

Personally, I think that if you need to downgrade from a 2011 car to a 2009 (same model) to save 200/month, means you should be more conservative and buy something for much less. For example a 335 or 328. Both, the M3 and shelby are pretty thirsty and gas in europe is not cheap, so you also have to consider that expense. Shelby will be difficult to maintain, get parts, etc...

I agree that it's not wise to go from 11 to 09 for only $200 a month. Either bite the bullet and stick it out or downgrade to a much cheaper vehicle as others have suggested.

Thanks for all the imput guys....... I will NEVER downgrade to a 335i or even worse a 328i. If I need to get rid of my M3 it will be for something of at least similar caliber.

That being said.......... I am going to hang on to mine for a while and see what comes up

I never said I could not "afford" the M3....... what is getting irritating is how much more expensive everything else is getting over here....... and the dollar to euro exchange rate SUCKS BALLS.

My wife is completely against me selling the ///M, so I will hang on to her for a while longer.
