Even non-enthusiasts think the M brand is being diluted...
My co-worker, who owns a 7er but isn't too big on Bimmers just emailed me this (knows i'm a huge BMW fan):
"Saw an X6 M version on 5th Ave. That’s almost as silly as that AMG version of the ML or GL MBZ trucks.; What’s the Detroit iron equivalent? SS Typhoon GM pickup??" Now, throw in the recent talks about X3 M and whatever else (X5 M, and even 1M if you ask me) and you can see how ridiculous this is getting. Even folks who don't know much about the real ///M think it's over the top. When does it become official that ///M = marketing? Are we past that point?

We are past that point.
I will keep my e92 m3 for a long time. Or if decide to downsize, i might get an e46 m3 or e86 z4mc for track only car...

The Typhoon was an amazing suv.
Think of the performance available in 1992/1993 and check out these performance figures... 0-60 = 5.3 seconds 1/4 run = 14 seconds Thats impressive by todays standards, let alone 92/93 The PICKUP version called the GMC Syclone (made in 1991) pulled these numbers... 0-60 = 4.3 1/4 run = 13 seconds Those are some ridiculous, INSANE figures considering its 1991. Hardly something to laugh at.

well first off, the GL and ML are both very nice looking trucks.
X6 should drop off the face of the earth. M is for marketing now. The e9xM is the last true M. x3M now? Come on, get real |

I know opinions run strong on this. And I understand that some of you have had M3s from way back like the E30.
But, if BMW continues to deliver with on the M3 in its newer iterations then I don't really care what they do with the rest of their line up. If the F32 M3 is fun as hell to drive and handles well then I'm interested. |

FWIW, the Detroit equivalent is the Grand Cherokee SRT8. The new one is close to 500hp (it is 475hp officially, but widely thought to be under rated). 0-60 in about 4 seconds.

Straight is all that truck can do... who cares about going straight?
Nurburgring specced X6M is amazing, there would be no way any SRT8 would be able to get close to X6M on that track. |

Dunno 'bout that. There was a truck running in-midst of a bunch of cars at Willow Springs a couple of Sundays ago, pulling hard around turns.

Many of you buy junk just because it has M logo on it, but then you complain about SUV that has a touch of M spliced in to its genes. Seriously, if you that uptight about it, go buy a Geo Metro, i promise you, no one will ever piss in to your Fairyland.

It's a company that's in business to make money. As long as you see these vehicles out there, there is a market, and they should keep on making them. Who cares if they have an "M" version for every single model?
Also...Folks here have to stop whining that, "The E9x is the last real "M" car." That's bullshit. I couldnt care less about whether the next M3 is NA or FI; or whether it redlines at 8,400 or 7,000 and neither should you. More HP and TQ is whats important going forward, regardless of how it's delivered.

Since when did power make a car an ///M car? That's what 335i owners want you to believe.
Maybe it's a little diluted with the X5 and X6 but what SUVs can really handle like them? It's kind of neat to think that they aren't purely straight line cannons. |

Makes no difference to me, as long as the car is fun to drive and looks cool.
