Need help urgent

Ok so i just drove from calgary to vancouver and my engine oil is at minimum. The only thing i could find at this time was 10w 40 api sn from a gas station, can i just use that and top up the oil?

go to the nearest bmw dealer or whatever things to get a fresh oil change

I am not in my city now and it is canada day and everywhere is closed
The manual says 10w 40 with api sj/cf or higher, so does 10w40 api sn work?

I am not pretty sure but it should work , just get some oil for it first, its critical moment

Called bmw assist is only for one year for canadian models

Same thing happened to me, there is certain mileage you can drive after you get the "Low Oil" warning. I forgot how much it was, but it's in the manual. I think its around 120 miles.

Yeah it shows it is below minimum so thats why i stopped. Onlything i need to know is if api sn is higher than api sj?

Seems like is higher since i googled it and it was released in 2010. Does anyone know for sure?

Did it tell you to add a quart? a +1 symbol. If not, I wouldnt add 1040, thats for sure.

I was in the same situation. I read somewhere that it is fine. Just get an oil change in the next week or two.

I was told it would do no harm an far better than running low.

And don't over fill as it takes a lite time for it to register.

Yes, the letter designations are progressive. N is a later standard than J. Pretty much anything should be fine to get above minimum. You've still got over 7 quarts of the TWS in there.

To be safe, drive your car moderately (think break in) until you get the oil changed. Good luck.

Just added to it and turned the engine on. Waiting until it updates the level. Thanks a lot guys

By the was after adding more than 0.5 liter , it shows full now
