Bought an E93 M3, first registered in May 2010, is it 2011.5?

Hi all,

Here in Europe we don't work with the model years that you are using in the US and that gives me some trouble understanding all the (incredibly valuable) information on this forum.

I have just bought a E93 M3, that rolled off the production line in April/May 2010 (facelift, with the LED rear lights). However, with model years in the US not corresponding to actual years I was wondering, is mine a 2011.5, a 2011.75 (and what does all that mean) or is it a 2010?

Thank you all very much if you could provide me with some insight in this (to me) world of mystery!

I think it's different in Europe. In the US the forum community designated the year increments based on new features BMW introduced.

In the US:

2011.5 - made from Sept 2010 - March 2011
2011.75 - made from March 2011 to present

April/May 2010 should be a 2011. 2011.5 started in Sept of 2010

Were they really making 2011s that early? Thats incredibly early for a model year and it wasn't an introduction year. I would be stunned if that car is a 2011. Check the sticky, the main benefits of the sub 2011 model year were the introduction of certain options, including the two tone interior.

In the US they started the '11 MY in March or April of '10 with the infamous 11.5's starting in September '10. The OP is in the Netherlands so not sure the same MY designations apply over there. I seem to recall that any European countries designate model years based on when the car was first registered...

Thanks everyone for helping out!

I suppose I bought a 2010 / 2011!! But at least not a 2011.5 or a 2011.75 (because a lot is written about those two "types" it is good to know!).

Thanks!!

that doesn't account for the mid-year updates that he OP was asking about.

Interesting dynamic here. The 2011 is a VERY long model year. It will make for a great disparity in the used market among 2011 model year cars - it will be as if there was almost 2 model years. There will be very "high" mileage 2011s and very low mileage ones. For instance, with normal mileage a 2011 could have 20k miles, while another one could have 200 miles. I bet the sub-year distinction will become more prevalent when the 2011's hit the used market several years down the road.
