currently own 08 e92 m3. sell, upgrade or keep?

I bought an 2008 e92 m3 earlier this year. It had 39k miles on it was taken immaculate care of. Bought from a friend who leased it so i ended up purchasing his buy out. Currently the car has 48,500 miles. Drives like brand new. I put new LCI tails and still have the dealer plates so it looks like i bought the car recently!

Here is my car:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10377943

Here are my options and you guys tell me what some of you would do. I only ask as im torn and debating what to do.

1. Keep current car until 70-100k miles then sell.
a. Get Extended Warranty for $4,000
b. Dont get extended warranty and save the money for repairs.
(The car has been great absolutely NO problems what so ever!)

2. Sell this car and get another e92 m3. (lower mileage!)

3. Sell this car and get another e93 m3 (me and my wife miss my e46 convertible!)

4. Sell the e92 m3 and get something else (Audit, Porsche) Something in the ~50k range. Most likely will stay with an m3 (probably till the day i die! )

One thing i would want is factory nav (which i dont have on my car) Otherwise it has it all Bluetooth, ipod even blue booth streaming (which is awesome!)

So what would you guys do!?

I am on the same boat. I think I will upgrade to a CPO 2011 model (if I can find the options I am looking for) by beginning of next year to get warranty until 2017.

i dont see why you want to swap it out with a newer one they just look the same or feels the same.. keep it and just get a warranty. im at 48k as well without no issue...

pay it off and get the newer model when it comes out. thats what i would do.

the new F82 M4 or the GTR.... will be the only option for me.

Keep it if it's been no problems. I wouldn't want to go through the hassles that come with buying a new car if I've got one I'm happy with and is as sweet as an M3.

Very good point guys! Plus i only owe about $3200 on it!

It might be time to start modding. Im thinking exhaust, blackout package and possibly rims

you have to do some mods men..... its the only way

start modding it asap... good choice on the new LCI... you need exhaust, wheels, drop and other bits and pieces.

This! Is the right move financially.

Sadly I have never done the right move financially so I would get what makes you happy, sounds like the E93.

Good luck!

Mods will make the car both look and feel new. This could be the fix for you my friend.

Are there any options that you want/don't want? Do you love your transmission choice?

If you have the perfect '08, I would keep it and get the warranty.

If there are little things you don't like (like you said the '09 Nav), I wait and find the perfect '09 or '10 M3.

Cheers

Edit - Coming from the guy who just bought a CPO 2008 M3 two months back

If it were me I'd go with one of the following two:

1. Trade it in a used Cayman S or Carrera
2. Skip the warranty and start moddling

I can't see the sense in trading it in on essentially the same car and I also can't see the sense in a $4000 warranty if you think you want to mod.

Trade it in for an 09 with 20k miles. You can get a vert 08 for a pretty good price and low miles for the price of an 09 coupe though.

Getting audited, as mentioned in option 4, doesn't sound like a lot of fun! (auto-correct is awesome right?)

In all seriousness though I'd go with option 1a.

I don't get the propensity on this forum of 2008 owners to upgrade to newer ones. What's the point? You said it's immaculate, and the new cars have no differences save for tail lights (done) and combox. Anyway, I agree with SehrSchnell. Just do a few mods at make it your own or wait to see if you like the new turbo (blech) F80.

I think an M3 is built to last without too many significant problems... *knock on wood*

I think you have a splendid car there with the right mods already started (LCI lights). Considering you only owe $3,200-Keep the current car and start modding.

Considering how quickly nav gets outdated-you now have a very clean cabin. (I would've optioned without nav however wife wouldn't allow it considering we were ordering a brand new $60k+ car)

Considering your car has not had any issues thus far-you obviously have an excellent car that you can enjoy for miles. Extended warranties are mostly scams with a very ambiguous exclusionary language.

Would suggest allocating $5k at all times for repairs (if the car doesn't require it-guess what?? you have money sitting in the bank :-) ) Plus all reports indicate that the E9X M3 is the most reliable M3 to date unlike the slightly flawed E46 M3.

Thank you. Great response! I now what you mean by the e46. My e46 was in the shop so often that my wife (gf back then) hated the fact i had gotten another m3. However i had an extended warranty so i really didnt mind at all (everything was always covered) Fidelity Platinum warranty. I check Fidelity for my e92 and it was over $5,000! On my e46 i had paid $2400 for 6 additional years and 60k miles!

I think my main motivation for selling was the non-nav and possibly an e93. Just thinking id lose over $10k in taxes by selling this car (tax on new car and tax lost on this car!)

Even in my e46 i had a pretty crazy double din set up which i just loved. i do feel like i have everything else in the e92 like bluetooth, ipod, sirius. just no nav and i use my phone when do i need it.

I have a buyer for my car. Now this decision is even hader! Doing the math i would end up paying $10-15k for either another m3 coupe (with nav super low miles, or an m3 convertable) Is spending $10k worth it for the same car with super low miles? and is $15k worth it for an vert.
