CIC Controller Removal

I've just got a used E87 and I think the previous owner spilled a soft drink in the CIC controller as one of the buttons is a bit sticky. Can anyone tell me how to remove it so I can clean it? It looks like the surround could be removed from the top with a trim tool but I don't want to try it if that's not how it comes off.

Any help much appreciated.
