Is it worth it to spend an extra 7-10k on a similarly equipped 09 m3 than 08?
I will be in the market for a used m3 in the next 4-5 months and know exactly what I want, but I have noticed there are fully loaded e92 m3's from 2008 near 40k and the same equipped 09 runs closer to 50. I know the Navi is upgraded bigtime from 08 but other than that what else changed? I will be wanting an interlagos blue or space gray fully loaded 6mt e92 when I purchase and will want an extended warranty to 100k mi....

im not comparing a specific mileage but would like it to be less than 40k miles if possible. By Fully loaded I mean premium pkg, tech pkg, enhanced audio, navi, 19's...i could do without cold weather package, sunshade, etc

No major difference between 08 and 09 besides the nav.... If you end up getting a car without nav, there will almost be no difference between the two.
Oh yes, i think 09 is the year where they changed the headlight switch trim a bit if I am not mistaken.....

as an owner of the 2011 with Navi, my opinion is that the nav is not worth another $7k by itself. sure, it's nice, but it's far from perfect.
what would be more valuable would be the extra year of warranty, presumably less wear and tear/mileage, etc. but if you can find a pristine 08, i'd take it over paying another $10k for an 09 |

Honestly it all depends. Elaborate a bit more.

I just got an 08, I heard about the nav...but I'm fine with the curnt nav having not experienced the 09. It does the job, has traffic info which I never had in any previous gps so ignorance is bliss for me

If navi is a must, then yes, 09. I'm sure you can find a good deal in the few months that you have to spare anyways. Good luck!

Sedans have new taillights which are a huge deal maker but for a coupe, it's pretty much only Nav. But keep in mind, the 09 car will be under warranty (whether CPO or original) for one more year.
Personally, I would not pay $10,000 more for 1 year newer unless it was in MUCH better condition |

In a similar situation, looking to buy a new ride in the next couple months. Pretty much decided I want an e90 m3. Only thing I am positive I want is 4 doors and 6mt. Like the 09 tail lights and prefer the 09 nav to the 08 nav, but not even sure I really want the nav. I don't think I really need nav. I am pretty confident in the area I live and don't travel too much, but I do like everything else idrive has to offer (I think it will be "cooler" for a lack of better words).
For me, this will be a car I likely keep for quite some time. That said, I would really like to have as much warranty as possible, so the newer the better and CPO will be a huge plus. Leaning towards going with a car with few options (surprisingly hard to come by). While I like the notion of nav, idrive, edc, other electronic gadgets would be cool, I really don't need any of that and I think it will be less costly to fix in the long run when the warranty runs out. My current car has none of this stuff so I know I don't need it, but I also have yet to experience much technology newer cars have to offer. I need to do some thinking/gather opinions this debate: more money in my pocket vs. more warranty. I can likely get an 08 e90 6mt for close to $40k and have a solid amount of money left to save for potential mods/maintenance/running costs in the future. Thankfully the e90 seems to be less problematic than previous generation m3s, but there is less data to look at as well. If I spend more money I can get a cpo 09+ and not have to worry about problems for a while. Likely it will come down to what I can find in my area. I have never purchased a car that I have had to travel for and don't know that I feel comfortable doing so. I guess its time to start looking. |

I would think part of the reason that 09's are that much more expensive at this point is that there are fewer of them for sale than 08's. From what I have seen its like 5 to 1 08's to 09's. I would assume much of that is because the 09's are just now starting to come off lease and in another six months there will be more 09's on the market and the price differential will be less. But maybe there were less 09's sold also. I'm planning to start looking next spring and I'm also weighting the price difference between an 08 vs. 09 as well.
