My New Dream Car

Hi everyone,

I am new to posting, though I have lurked for ages. Finally, and unbelievably, I am the one who gets to announce a new car.

The M3 has been my dream car for a decade. Literally my dream car. I stumbled upon an eBay listing for an E46 M3 sometime around 2002. At the time, I thought it was the nicest car I had ever seen (I grew up in Montana, where BMWs--much less M3s--are few and far between). I kept up with the models, lustfully, and by the time the E92 with the V8 rolled around, I was convinced it was the pinnacle of engineering. During that time, I drove a 2001 Ford Focus. A lovely little daily driver that served me amazingly well, despite a host of nagging electrical system problems.

Last weekend I ventured to my local dealership to look at getting a nice practical-but-peppy 335i. As luck would have it, they had a brand new 2012 E92 M3 sitting on the lot that had been delivered all of 48 hours earlier. One test drive and a lot of hand-wringing later, it was mine. I didn't custom order, obviously. I had all but convinced myself over the past few months that despite my dream, I wouldn't get an M3. That being said, this one is almost exactly what I would have ordered if I could. And I love it. I love it more than I ever thought I would. It brings me pure joy every time I see it parked and realized I won't have to watch some other person drive it away.

Sorry for the long story, but thank you for reading. Without further ado, specs and pictures--i.e., the reason you're here. The photos are just quick snaps I took today (nice weather) and earlier this week (gross cloudy weather), but you get the idea.

2012 E92 M3
Jerez Black Metallic
Black Novillo Extended Leather
Sycamore Anthracite Wood Trim
Competition Package
Premium Package
M DCT
Moonroof (I would have omitted this if I had been custom ordering)
Heated Front Seats
Navigation w/ BT, USB connectivity
Satellite Radio (eh)
Enhanced Premium Sound

And voila:

Very nice, congrats!

Our cars are almost identical save for trim and sunroof. Nice to see another Extended Black Novillo. Seems rare to see Extended in black.

Congrats and welcome to the club. I had been following M3's for 20 years when I wandered in to drive an 08, 2 weeks later I ended up with a 2011 Space Grey Competition, brand new. I pulled away thinking I was still dreaming...

Let the modding begin... it gets bad in a hurry.

Man, I never tire of hearing this great 'dream realized' stories either....

Especially when the owner is kind enough to supply us with nice eye candy.

Beautiful car.

Congrats and enjoy in good health!!!

Thank you everyone! I agree, there are flat-out nicer cars, but for cost-to-driveability and on and on, I just love this. One of my best friends drives a 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S (he upgraded from an 09 E92), and he admits that as a daily driver, he often misses the M3.

For the time being, stock, but largely only because I have no idea what mods are possible, advisable, or necessary for this car. That's something I really know nothing about.

Keep at it. You will get there. Whatever it takes to get there: this car is worth it.

Oh I see, I would start with a black kidney grill, just my though. Many people start with that.

And, this exactly what I would like on a M3. Im in love with those competition rims, I gotta say.

This^^^ And congrats OP, seriously. I feel the same and I can tell you after almost 6 months of ownership, that sensation does not go away. When I go in the garage for whatever, I always stop and stare at my baby. Walkarounds, hand on the roof, awe and disbelief are still common staples on my M3 plate.

Other than some minor aesthetics: black kidneys, black oem wheels, tint... I am personally content with the appearance and performance of the car. Dont really want to change anything. Maybe the SC upgrade in five years... maybe...

Beautiful.....and another happy M ending. Went looking for a 335i and picked-up a M...that was well-played sir. Just the pic of the steering wheel says it all.
