Will dealer replace faded steering wheel?

If the car is still under warranty, will the dealer replace a faded steering wheel? I have had some interior trim pieces in the past with my X5. Just curios if they would replace the steering wheel?

I highly doubt it. The warranty doesn't cover normal wear and tear.

The trim pieces they replaced on my X5 were also normal wear and tare. I know they are relatively inexpensive, but...

What does the weight of the trim matter?

Depends on your dealer, but I have had steering wheels replaced on different cars.

I had a problem with Rallye BMW a few years ago with my e46 M3 still under factory warranty. A few people I knew had their steering wheels replaced but they refused to change mine. Supposedly a BMW rep came and looked at it when I dropped my car off at the end but I doubt it since they wouldn't let me speak with him.

Depends. I had a steering wheel replaced on my last car (Mitsu) that was prematurely faded. Maybe if they determine that it's premature they'll repplace it...hopefully.

I had an entire interior door panel, complete with fox red leather, replaced secondary to some wear and tear on the inner aspect of the passenger door handle. A few other trim pieces, including a portion of the steering wheel, were also replaced. No questions asked. You just need to have a good relationship with your SA and a decent dealership.

I just got the dealer to replace a chipped dct shift knob under warranty...

Why is it faded?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will definitely ask the dealer.

Not sure why it is faded, but it is definitely noticeable.

It is faded because it is cheap leather, IMO. It happened to my E46 M3 and with my E90 M3 within a year of use; the dealer did not replace the first but replaced the second.

Now I use driving gloves to try to extend a bit the longevity of the leather.

if you car is under the original warranty, then yes, the dealer should cover it.

but like others have mentioned, it could depend on the dealer and their relationship with BMW NA

I have bought 3 BMW's from them in the lat 3 years. I have a very good relationship with them. Just been too lazy to get my ass down there. Just wanted to check on the forum what others experience might have been.

Thanks again everyone for your input.

I think it depends on which dealership you go to. The inside of my driver seat is fading and took it in to get it replaced and they said its not covered under normal wear. Stupid.....

You should try leather cleaner then conditioner if they will not replace. leather will fade if dry.
