Door protection question...
I came across a thread where someone mentioned something about wall mounting door protection in their garage. While searching around, I found this site Eurobumperguard.com. I am pretty interested in getting it, but it says can only be used on certain materials because it is magnetic.
I am currently deployed, so I cannot go out to my garage with a magnet to test it out and see if it is compatible. I also searched the forum quite extensively (door/door panels/door dings/door materials/ect) and checked online to see if I could find out what the doors themselves are made of so I can order these. We live in Germany and any of you that live or have lived here know, the parking spots are a bit smaller than stateside (usually). So when we go to the mall or some other public gathering place, the entire time ALL I am thinking about is coming back and finding a ding/dent on my car... this is a welcome idea and I would most definitely use it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: This is what I am talking about, not the wall mounted door guards.

Are you looking for something that mounts to the garage wall? I recently got these for my garage. They have devices that attach to car doors as well. Search for Park Smart Door Guard.

I was initially looking for the products that you mount on the wall and while searching, I found that site. These are portable, (put in the trunk) and then you can attach to the car so you can protect the doors from getting hit when you are at public areas.
The question is basically what are the doors on the M3 made out of? The foam pads have magnets in them to attach to the car. I just need to make sure they are not aluminum or some other exotic material...

I bought rubber utility tiles and cut them to the size I required. They work real well and are very inexpensive to buy.

The problem with using that to protect against other cars is you don't know the profile of the other car's doors. They might stick out in a spot that doesn't line up with where you put that widget.
For my garage, I have some that are covered in cloth, but nobody seems to sell them anymore. Everything seems to be plastic or rubber. |

There are OEM rub strips you can buy if you want to attach something permanently. Don't think they look too bad.

Anything you attach to the car has to be clean, and the car itself as well, or you'll scratch the paint with whatever dirt gets in the middle. (Plus I imagine suctions cups need a clean surface in any case.)
Personally, I'm just careful about how and where I park, but accept that an occasional door ding will happen if I want to use the car to get anywhere. So far I've only gotten about one a year, any never really bad (yet!?, knock on wood).
