Brother gone on vacation... How often do I need to run the car?
Brothers on vacation for a month. Asked me to run the car like once a week. Do I need to take it around the block, or just start the engine and have it run for a few minutes? I am tempted to use it full time while his gone, but I don\'t want to mess up his car though. I ordered an m3 convertible through ED so I have to wait till may to pick up my car. So I would love to borrow my brothers car for the month. It\'s just too tempting.
So what is the proper procedure? Run the engine for a few minutes? Drive it around the block? Borrow it for the month he\'s gone? Second time posting. Sadly the first one was unsuccessful. |

i would tell him that the M3 engine is such a masterpiece and advanced technology that it should not be left unattended for any extended period of time. as such, i'd recommend you DD it until he comes back

Did he note the mileage before he left?
But seriously, you don't want to start it cold, idle it cold for a few minutes, and shut it down. That would probably do more harm than good. Take it for a nice Sunday drive each week. Drive it like you would want someone to drive yours if you were out of town. Enjoy it but don't beat it up. |

That all depends... How much do you love your brother?

My plan is to take it to work once a week which is a 15 min commute. Felt a little guilty after driving it in M mode (I pressed it after driving the car for 5 min) all I have to say its awesome. Get depressed after returning it and getting in my 335i. May cannot get here sooner. I wish I wasn't such a good brother or I would drive it like I stole it! The big difference I notice from the 335i to the m3 (besides everything) the clutch on my car is 10 times stiffer than his car which is so soft. I don't like the clutch in the m3. One of the reasons why I ordered my car with DCT. Anyone else feel that way? |

I notice you're from Miami. So I would say this is how you should run the car.
