Brother gone on vacation... How often do I need to run the car?

Brothers on vacation for a month. Asked me to run the car like once a week. Do I need to take it around the block, or just start the engine and have it run for a few minutes? I am tempted to use it full time while his gone, but I don\'t want to mess up his car though. I ordered an m3 convertible through ED so I have to wait till may to pick up my car. So I would love to borrow my brothers car for the month. It\'s just too tempting.

So what is the proper procedure?
Run the engine for a few minutes?
Drive it around the block?
Borrow it for the month he\'s gone?

Second time posting. Sadly the first one was unsuccessful.

i would tell him that the M3 engine is such a masterpiece and advanced technology that it should not be left unattended for any extended period of time. as such, i'd recommend you DD it until he comes back

Put on the battery trickle charger and leave the car alone.

Did he note the mileage before he left?

But seriously, you don't want to start it cold, idle it cold for a few minutes, and shut it down. That would probably do more harm than good. Take it for a nice Sunday drive each week. Drive it like you would want someone to drive yours if you were out of town. Enjoy it but don't beat it up.

How far is your commute? If you can get it warmed up, take it to work once a week.

That's why I'm asking.

My plan is to take it to work once a week which is a 15 min commute. Felt a little guilty after driving it in M mode (I pressed it after driving the car for 5 min) all I have to say its awesome. Get depressed after returning it and getting in my 335i. May cannot get here sooner. I wish I wasn't such a good brother or I would drive it like I stole it!

The big difference I notice from the 335i to the m3 (besides everything) the clutch on my car is 10 times stiffer than his car which is so soft. I don't like the clutch in the m3. One of the reasons why I ordered my car with DCT. Anyone else feel that way?

Your brother does read the forums also. Driving it once a week to work is good advice. Driving it for straight month works also, but park it in BFE when you go to public places, it had zero dings when I left and it best not have any when I come back. Remember though, you drive it for a month, I'm gonna take your Dct out for a month as reciprocation. Enjoy it in good health, aren't you happy I talked you into getting an M3 over an 335is?

I'd drive it at least once a week until the oil temp gets close to the 210 (center) mark.

I notice you're from Miami. So I would say this is how you should run the car.

Damnit brother I thought you'd be too busy to read the forums. The jig is up. Don't worry I know all the rules for car.

Park in BFE
No food in the car
And drive it like it's hot!!

Just be sure to take one video (with iPhone is fine) of my car turning on the stage. And lots and lots of pictures with the top up and down!
